Exclamation Two related questions about possible cancellation of non-conference games
First Question: I don't think many would disagree with me that guarantee games (P5 teams paying G5 and FCS teams to play them and G5 teams paying FCS teams to py them) don't exist to boost TV money for the teams paying the paycheck. They exist to boost ticket money.

So if we have restrictions on crowd from games from most states (if not imposed by the NCAA t large) limiting ticket revenue doesn't that make it better for the bottom line for Power 5 teams to cancel all non-conference games to get out of paying out paychecks? These contracts have escape clauses that can be invoked (and they have been invoked before for games cancelled because of hurricanes IIRC).

Second Question: If all non-conference games are cancelled then how do you decide which conference champions get the CFP playoff spots and who the highest-rated G5 conference champion is for the Access Bowl? There's literally no way for people or computer algorithms to judge relative conference strength without non-conference games.

TV partners pay conferences for inventory so tv networks need those games. Conference networks need inventory. Indirectly, programs are hurt financially if those games aren't played.

TV partners might have clauses similar to the ones you speak of, where they don't have to pay a conference as much if inventory quotas aren't fulfilled.

Fantasy answer: with so few teams playing 12 games, you stage qualifying games in December (technically still in the regular season time frame).

Good questions. Those body bag games are all about ticket, concession, and other game day revenues. If you can’t fill your stadium it would make sense to cancel any game that was a “buy” game and not part of a series.

The second question is a bit harder. I venture to say that not all OOC games will be cancelled so there ought to be some data points available. The CFP committee makes the ultimate rankings so they will defer to their own eye ball tests to select the NY6 rep

It's going to be harder and harder for governments/schools to say you can riot without regard for social distancing but you can't attend classes/games because you need to social distance.
