I'm bored out of my mind, and figured we could start a thread listing the reasons why the ACC is superior to all other conferences.

One reason per post, so as to share in the bounty of reasons ....


-- Superior Geography

From mountains, to beaches;
Small towns, to large metropolises (is that spelled right? too lazy to check it);
From Miami to Boston;
From Yinz, to Yall, to YouseGuys;
From clam chowder, to wings, to bar-b-cue;
From bourbon, to beer, to wine;
Over ten different states ...

The ACC has got it covered.

The ACC has got it covered.

The Finger Lakes, NY Wine Country is the best and most beautiful wine country in the US outside of Napa Valley. Great area to visit when visiting for a Syracuse game. The Adirondack Mountains and NYC.

Superior demography. Superior market penetration.


Geographically vast. Culturally non-cohesive. Questionable leadership.

An Obvious Feature (which results in very distinctive attributes):

Most Private Universities (and highest proportion of Privates)(One bad aspect is the relatively low student populations)

Of course you're counting only P5's. The Big East easily has them beat where all but UConn is private. And of course the Ivy League's all private. The WCC's also all private.

I consider that a negative since I'm anti private in general although there are a few private schools I like (especially Villanova).

You have to talk about Duke and North Carolina men's basketball, all their national championships, and their great rivalry.

I am guessing the Highest Academic Standing
of all P5's

Yes, I realize Louisville brings that academic standing down. Or the ACC's standing would be even better than it is! But the City (and later the State, in 1969) chose Louisville's academic mission(s) for many good and valid reasons, very specific to a high-density urban Midwestern/Southern demographic concentrated within a very sparse rural (and relatively poor) Southern state.

The ACC is definitely top 5 of any collegiate athletics conference.

But with plenty of Bourbon. So that makes up for being poor.

Louisville is a fun road trip

The ACC has national championship contenders in the sports that people care about the most: football and basketball (and even baseball, lacrosse, women's basketball, and others).
