A&T and NC Central are both good programs. However, most of the MEAC teams are looking to get paid during their non-conference schedule. Which we don't have the money to pay teams that can beat us. Let EZU continue to do that.
Isn’t that the same logic in-state ACC teams use to avoid us (or other successful mid-majors)?

2020-2021 Men's basketball season
(06-06-2020 11:14 AM)billthebighawksfan Wrote: It sucks that it happened in 2006. Some guy went off from 3 that day and the Hawks were almost double digit road favorites. Hawks had final RPI of like 30 and was a 9 seed NCAA team. If they won that game the RPI would have been top 20 with likely a 6-7 seed. Rivalry games are killers. They were a little better last year and will be hard to beat on the road but back then they sucked.
Yep. I was at that game with my family. It was brutal having talked up our team and having to listen to my brother since then.

RE: 2020-2021 Men's basketball season
They were just balling and got hot. Hawks got off to a bad start that day. And, they took the game lightly and did not defend like normal at first of the game. Anything can happen in a rivalry game. One year we were bad under buzz and were road dogs and won there so it can go either way. They get a lot of grief for being bad but have had tough competition too. It will eventually make them better because they have a pretty good coach.

If those schools would be agreeable to a home and home series, I think it would be a good deal for us. UNCW doesn't buy home games, those schools are looking to get paid. I just don't see it happening.

That may be true but they got another big even better than Huffman. They have a bunch of bigs overall. I do trust this staff regardless.

Have I missed something? Why do we care about this team?

Just found it interesting that this school got 2 good bigs and already has a ton of size. It’s a head scratcher and they really aren’t a juggernaut mid either. This isn’t a knock on us at all either. That program stood out on the portal to me.

Gotcha'. I'm still in a wait and let's see mode. Siddle runs one big man so we really don't need more than two and three is a stretch. Otherwise, they will be sitting the bench and will transfer anyhow. Under Keatts, Cacok played most of the game with only a few short stretches on the bench. Marcus Bryan didn't touch the court in our CAA championship win over CofC.

The only problem was that Duke exposed us at times in the 2nd half in the NCAAs so I’m pretty sure that Siddle is all over that for the future. It would be nice if we could go big every once in a while if getting burned. Perhaps we have part of that answer already on our roster. Hope so anyway.

As a freshman, Cacok averaged 9 minutes a game. He had seven blocked shots for the season. Dodd averaged 16 minutes and had a total of 30 blocked shots.
Now I know Cacok made a huge leap from freshman to sophomore. But I can't help but think Dodd has gotten off to a great start. This COVID-19 crap may be a deterrent to his ability to continue growing into something special, I can't help but be excited about just how good he may end up being. Hopefully he decides to stay with us.

We actually have a perfect system for him as the lone big man. He will either be the lone big man this year, or at worst split time with Steere. Either way, he'll get a lot of PT as a Sophomore. He doesn't have stretch four capability that most schools want, but he's undersized at the five, which doesn't seem to bother Siddle. His best chance is to stay put.

More concerned with our 3pt shooting than a big. We need a major improvement in that area with our roster.

Three point shooting is what drove the Keatts offense, while the press drove defense and easy buckets. We were relentless hitting the three ball and our guys had the green light to shoot. Keatts preached relentless, disciplined defense and freedom on offense, so I agree.

We can easily overcome our lack of size with 3pt shooting. I will gladly trade 2s for 3s. With the amount of attempts a game that the Keatts/Siddle system uses if we shoot better than 35% from 3 we win most games. For perspective in Keatts' last year we shot 36%.

I enjoy watching the athletes play the game, but sometimes I cringe listening to them talk.
