Correct, 3 seniors and 2 2021 commits
Mettlen has an article out with quotes from Stinson

Coach Joyner took the lead to get Stinson. On paper, so far so good from Coach Joyner and the rest of the staff

Matt lewis' little brother is committing Sunday. That would obviously be a huge get

Would one of the bigger schools who is recruiting him allow Lewis to commit early as a 2022 prospect? I don’t think he’s that highly rated where they would typically get a commitment that early but I could be wrong.

Matt’s parents have been encouraging him to transfer from JMU since his Freshman year. It is highly unlikely his brother commits to JMU. If Matt did not have a girlfriend at JMU, he likely would no longer be a Duke.

Just a guess by I think GTown will be the pick.

Purple - having a girlfriend at JMU would never make an athlete come to JMU, correct?

Ha! Too funny Dukester. The girls attending JMU have been a strong recruiting tool for coaches over the years. A number of our men married well because of it too.

I don’t think Paul Lewis is completely out of the question. I do think he’ll go to Georgetown or Maryland but who knows maybe Matt trusts in Coach B and told his brother it’s a good fit. Regardless, we know that the coaching staff is deep in DMV aau and high school ball so we have good connections for the future.

Dukes are losing two guards and a forward and have added two guards for 21. Makes sense to use the last 'ship on a big given the projected roster in 21. Even with small ball and position-less basketball, you still need to have some size. Byington seems to like his 6-foot guards, but I think the team already has enough of those. Good luck to Lewis at MD!

As of right now Paul Lewis is classified as a 2022 graduate.

You're right...I stand corrected on his class. I have not followed recruiting too closely since Byington finished his class of 8 guys for this fall. My points are still valid with respect to filling the last 21 'ship.
JMU does not typically get in the running for players two years out. I watched 30 seconds of Lewis on tape yesterday and he's very athletic, albeit small right now. He's young enough that he could still grow a bit. Lewis would have been in line to replace the likes of Vado Morse (6-0) and Jalen Hodge (6-1). Strickland is listed at 6-0 and there are two walk ons in that same size range (McNair and Smith) currently on the roster. Additionally, Stinson, a 21 recruit, is listed at 6-0.
I know from years of watching basketball, that players of that size can be defensive liabilities. I prefer players with size, including at the guard position. They'll have to play at a fast pace to compensate for that lack of size when it's employed. I know Byington knows what he's doing and will use that last 21 scholarship judiciously.

UR has had a lot of success with small quick guards that can shoot and play very good defense. If they were 4 inches taller, they would be at Duke. They are just as athletic and shoot just as well.
At the mid major level, you sacrifice height or skill. Pick your poison because only in rare circumstances do you get both and I mean very rare. I choose skill.

I trust that they know what they are doing and since it’s an established coach and staff with a track record for winning the players that they need that fit their style. I think the prior staff had a philosophy on recruits and the type of players that fit their system which was an unproven system and turned out to be a losing one. If they stressed length and this staff stresses handle and versatility snd speed over length I’m willing to give it a shot. A lot has changed in basketball over the years but some of the best JMU teams had smallish quick guards. If they can handle and they can shoot snd they play with a motor and they are quick and have a good basketball IQ I’d like to see how they play.

Lou’s guards were all missing something. Banks could not dribble. Parker could not shoot. Lewis has okay height but no size. We can argue shooting ability for Lewis too due to his % overall. Some games he was very good and others not. Let’s just say he wasn’t consistently good.
UR has had smaller guards that are quick, fast, can shoot, can defend and have good b-ball IQ. They just lack size. I think their entire team has pretty good b-ball IQ. They would have made some noise in the tourney last year if invited. They had some good wins OOC and only four conference losses if my memory serves me right.
