RE: SBC and CUSA could combine in pandemic recovery
Everyone EXCEPT Latech can combine through merger or a scheduling arrangement....

Latech and Liberty can form their own conference and play one another 8 times each season.

RE: SBC and CUSA could combine in pandemic recovery
LOL.

CUSA commissioner is the one that has mentioned this stuff previously. So has ODU prez on multiple occasions over the past couple of years. The Louisiana AD comments doesn't suddenly change this narrative. The smoke isn't coming from the SBC.

And why the heck would any SBC school move to CUSA? For worse football ratings? For a worse TV deal? For less revenue? For more travel? What an idiot.

This guy is an embarrassment. No wonder he works at LaTech.

If our commissioner has any vision he'll try to get our league to pursue the best 2 (possibly 4) schools that would fit well with our conference. It would help fix the one issue we have with travel, and it would be a nice reality check for the others. Marshall and USM are clear picks. Not sure who we could all agree on if we wanted two more.

Seems plausible that something is going on and La Tech ain't in the conversation. Now is not the time to be throwing potential life lines or band aids or whatever under the bus. Stupid move as the spokesman for a universities athletics. That kind of bitterness at this time lends itself to someone who's having an oh sh## moment.

I'd love to see it happen... but considering our schools are making more than the MWC per team in CFP revenue, I don't know if the conference will go for it.

If the SBC were to finish as the highest-rated G5, PLUS get a NY6 invite... we're making bank with just 10 schools... You'd be looking at $2.5-million to $3-million going to each school.

We need to stay at 10. Don't take on CUSA problems. I definitely put tech in that word problem.

The Belt is stronger now without these schools, it was their choice to leave so we should wish them good luck and forget about them. They screwed up leaving the Belt.

I would be happy with a regional alignment, but I would like to keep Texas State, USA, in a league with Louisiana and add USM and maybe LA Tech. This may be an unpopular topic, but considering ULM already had the smallest budget in FBS, I wonder if they can survive in FBS this round. There may be no state money in Louisiana for university sports this year but regardless, it will definitely be much less than in the past.

We have a small budget but 0 financial waste and no real debt. Why would we be worse off if the footprint lessens?

Y'all have a great athletic department, but if we had the debt that you guys had last year and our budget sure I would for sure be worried. If Bruno was good at one thing it was financial acumen. If realignment happens it will help us greatly with cots savings, and a big-money game against Tech (we won't go away no matter how much they whine). We will be fine.

I just want to make the conference as strong as possible if a total realignment isn't going to happen. Honestly the best outcome would be to add Marshall, UAB, and USM, have Texas State move to CUSA to join the other Texas schools, and require everyone to sponsor football. Overall the league would stay at 12 while football would increase by 2.

Our football payouts would get reduced some, but travel costs would go down to offset some of that. The league would also be stronger in all sports which could lead to other revenue increases. An added bonus is this wouldn't help out any of the schools that left the SBC for CUSA.

East: App, Marshall, Coastal, GS, GSU, UAB
West: Troy, USA, USM, stAte, UL, ULM

This! Instead of UA’s B we could also approach James Madison, they would probably love to be in a conference with Marshall and App State.

No to JMU, why would add an FCS team when there are FBS schools in the footprint to pick from???

I agree. If UAB didn't work out I'd go for UNCC or ODU over JMU. Geographically UAB would be a great fit, and UNCC would also fit in well. ODU is a bit out of the way for many teams, but if we're looking in VA we might as well go with an established FBS program.

I think this league could easily surpass the MountainWest. Quick, you all to get in your presidents and commissioners ear and tell them to make this work haha.

Honestly, I wouldn’t want to see any SBC teams kicked to CUSA though, that wouldn’t be fair. Although, Texas State might welcome that move to be in a Texas based conference along with Rice and UNT.

I don’t see why a near true swap of divisions wouldn’t work?

Sun Conference

LaTech (NMSU), UTEP, UTSA, UNT, Rice, TXST,

UL, ULM, stAte, USA, USM, UAB

USA Belt

MU, ODU, Charlotte, MTSU, WKU, App

CCU, Troy, GaSo, GaSt, FAU, FIU

Pretty decent for Fb and Bb. Probably won’t happen, but it’s fun to toss around.

Are you kicking out Little Rock and Texas Arlington? If you add them back to the conference then what do you do about USA, which is in the “West” for football but “East” for other sports?

I really wouldn’t see a need to keep any associate members. If they were kept, then all full members would stay put in their divisions. The associate would move. UTA in the west and UALR would go East.

Texas Arlington and Little Rock aren’t associate members. They are full members that do not sponsor football.

UTA and UALR have full membership in the league. They just don't sponsor football. They do take less of the league revenue as a result, but they have the same voting rights as everyone else.
