NCAA allows voluntary athletics programs to return to campuses June 1
From elsewhere on the net (ACC article):

Earlier this week, the NCAA announced that they will allow voluntary athletics programs to return to campus on June 1st. The first school to announce they would allow students back on campus was the University of Louisville. All 15 players on the basketball team will be welcomed back on May 27th and will have to go through an eleven-day quarantine. If that goes without a hitch, they can begin voluntary workouts with coaches on June 8th. Soon after that announcement, Florida State announced that they’ll allow athletes back on campus. The details have yet to be explained, but that’s two ACC schools that are planning to continue with COVID-19 going on.

I have a funny feeling it’s not going to just be that easy. This thing has turned incredibly political since it began and it’s only become worse and worse.

Look at the states those programs are in. Wouldn’t surprise me if publicly funded schools in NC have some difficulty making the same choices.

Yep. Exactly my point. Look at the Michigan govt in recent press with this thing vs states like Kentucky or Florida.

They’re playing politics with as much of our normal lives as possible.

Absolutely. The virus is real, but both sides have politicized. It’s ugly and some of the decisions are borderline criminal.

Exactly. Nobody is denying the reality, just that AT THIS POINT it is being used politically.

100% political decisions are being made by governors

Louisville is in a state with a Democratic Governor though. Are you saying they’ll get blocked from returning?

Decisions should be based on scientific data. If they are, then it is the right call. Most people agree that a step-wise approach is wise. And, I realize that we have to move on but it has to be smart.

Agreed, but throughout this long process, no one...not medical experts, not world leaders, not anyone....had a firm grasp of how this would play out. That's the problem with a novel virus for which we don't have an immunity. The data isn't always clear.

Its possible the mitigation efforts reduced the body count. It's also possible we overreacted and caused more harm than good with the mitigation efforts. The data won't really be clear on this until years from now.

We also don't know yet of any long-term impact. Such as whether a lot of the people who caught the virus will end up with scar tissue on their lungs.

In the end, all I care about is the US Constitution and our freedoms. Period. As the federal judge stated when he overturned Lord Cooper on churches "there is no pandemic clause in the US Constitution".

We don't agree on much, but you couldn't be more spot on with this statement!

Nobody is being uncivil here, but let’s make sure we keep the topic of conversation related to NCAA decisions. When I brought it up I tried to keep that infused into the response.

Again, no issue with anything thus far but Stuff like this could potentially cause legal issues for the site if we venture too far off the topic at hand here.

It would be good if the guys could get some weights and conditioning in plus go over the basics of what they're going to do. Some of the guys would really benefit for a killer summer of weights and conditioning!

Merely discussing politics is all. The site avoids lawsuits by having a police forum.

Just stating that if we discuss the politics of the situation it should be centered on the topic as it concerns the NCAA and by extension, UNCW.

If you follow any of them on social media you’d see that they are still doing that. While it would be nice for them to be able to do it as a team, it’s not mandatory. Most, if not all of them are posting workouts daily.

I haven’t follow them like that, but it’s good to know they are hitting the weights too! You really have to these days.
