I just got an email from a friend that is a IL booster. He said Tony was loved and respected for his time at IL.

I started watching UC basketball during the Yates era. I remember classic players like McClendon and sweet Lou. Even though they didn't win that much was fun to watch. I remember some classic McClendon/UofL matchups.

Yates coached under a couple legends at Illinois in Gene Bartow and Lou Henson. I'm sure Tony had a huge hand in rebuilding Illinois into one of the better programs of the '80s.

Heck, 1 FF and Some great regular seasons made all of us super fans.
