20-21 BBall schedule
Very late to start - we all know the big ones. Richmond home and home is the latest, starting at home next year:

"BIG" would be a stretch. I'd classify it as a winnable P5 road game to start a 2 year home and home...

Would really enjoy another Iowa State or NC State series. Those schools seem to have been quite similar to our own in both football and basketball. I've always felt like we belong more with them, as middle of the road P5 schools with big dreams and small resources, as opposed to our AAC colleagues.

We have been better than either of those schools recently.

This is shaping up to be a really nice schedule. I like what I've seen in the first two years of Brannen scheduling -- although I don't know how much he had to do with last year's given the timing. Definitely had better buy games last year than usual though.

Some of those games like Tennessee and Iowa were already locked in. But he was the one who made the conscious decision to add the likes of Colgate, Drake, and Vermont (2/3 won their conferences) in order to improve UC's SOS metrics as opposed to Arkansas Pine-Bluff, SW Missouri State, and Whocaresnowheresville College.

20-21 BBall schedule
For those who didn't follow the bubble last year, UCs SOS really separated them from the pack. And it was primarily due to the high end buy games at the front of the schedule. If there had been a tournament, we likely would've made it despite our 4 Q3 losses simply because we only played 2 Q4 games and then cleaned up all of our Q2 games.

I agree. And in retrospect, I now question UC's Big East pre-conference scheduling. The rationale as I recall was that we'd have plenty of opportunities for quality opponents in conference. True enough. But UCONN and Louisville were out playing contenders in headliner games in November and December and winning their fair share on national TV while UC was often toiling against directional and small private schools on FSO telecasts.

As Mick was rebuilding the program in the first few years, he needed that long list of cupcakes on the non-conference schedule to accumulate wins, especially when they were VERY hard to come by in the Big East. But as he built stability and a very strong program in a weaker AAC over the last decade or so, it made no sense to not be smarter in the scheduling department and bring in better opponents to bolster that NCAA Tournament resume.

Heck, I think I read that Vermont cost like $75k, which is the going rate for a buy game nowadays. If $75k could've been spent anywhere, I commend this staff for using analytics (and common sense) to realize that a Vermont-type opponent is far more valuable than Arkansas Pine-Bluff.

Richmond has all five starters returning next year coming off this year's 24-7 record. They are a veteran team with a 15-year veteran coach who has spent his entire tenure at Richmond and started there under John Beilein. They will be a legitimate Top 25 team in 20-21 and likely the A-10 favorite.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Morgan State, Alabama State, Mississippi Valley State, Maryland-Eastern Shore, Texas Southern, Savannah State.... Mick scheduled one and sometimes two HBCU's a year. I understand it is noble to line those schools pockets, but it often wound up killing our SOS, fan interest and attendance.

Last years and this year is certainly a major change and step up in OOC. If you want to play an HBCU why not Wilberforce or Central State University and keep it local.

Wilberforce? 03-lmfao 500 students. There's probably some YMCA league teams that would be more competitive.

RE: 20-21 BBall schedule
Very frustrating seeing this schedule when there is a very good chance these games don't get played or the very least not played in front of fans. The good news is that this regime will probably continue to schedule this way so even if next season is lost in some capacity the following years will look similar.

Good get. It seems like Tom Crean has Georgia on the upswing. They're kind of in a similar place to where Ben Howland had Mississippi State when we had our series with them.

Crean's had an interesting career. He got Marquette to a Final Four but couldn't win enough to keep the Hoosier faithful happy over in Bloomington (though few have post Bobby). I don't think the bar is terribly high at Georgia for basketball success so he may have found a good niche. And it's a good series for UC. Richmond may have a better team but an SEC school will generate greater fan interest.

Next season will be the first year since 15-16 where we're scheduled to play 3 true OOC road games.

He rode an all time great to a final four. Georgia is probably the right level for him as a coach.
