I subscribed to the Athletic on a deal also. Good, well written articles and interviews, not just rah, rah. Hard to give up when it jumps back to full price.

I still like coming back to this board, however.

I'm a member and find it to be wonderful. I look at this board and the athletic. This board has the most ranting and raving by members and has more lively conversation. BCJ is mostly info driven. The Athletic focuses on more in depth pieces. All of the three are great. If I had to choose just one, it would be BCJ.

For the most part, I've been exclusive here. But I've done a stint or two at BCJ and I just started a 90 day free membership at the Athletic a few days ago. My take: if your time and/or money are very limited, just stay here at this site (edit: and maybe supplement with browsing and a few UC freebies at cincinnati.com each month - see below). If you are primarily a UC sports fan with extra time and money, go with BCJ. If you are also a fan of multiple teams, particularly including pro ones regardless of what city, go with the Athletic. My trial started just before the draft and I'm still trying to catch up on all their coverage. (Their pre-draft LB analysis highlighted 3 guys and the Bengals ended up drafting all 3!) If you've got plenty of cash and/or time, go with all 3 (or 4 if you count cincinnati.com.)

Edit: The Enquirer ain't what it used to be and thus justifiably gets knocked around, but I think they still give you 5 free articles a month if you play by the rules and obviously unlimited if you subscribe. UC coverage often isn't great (I haven't tracked it specifically, but it seems like a revolving door of writers might be the biggest culprit), but they will occasionally surprise you with some pretty good stuff. If your interests are mostly local and not just UC or sports/teams of choice, they really aren't a bad digital option either for the money or even just to browse free for the occasional UC article of interest.

Yea I've had The Athletic basically since day one and it works out well since I follow the Bearcats, Blue Jackets, Reds, Indians, Bengals etc. and it's a great value price wise at anywhere from $2.50-$4.00/month. I'm looking to supplement the Bearcats coverage I can get from here and there, especially with how much Fickell has ramped up recruiting.

The Enquirer has its good days/periods if you avoid everything except the sports section. Particularly Fletcher Page who was great for them - unbiased, knowledgeable, informative, and relatively frequent.. not quite frequent as The Athletic or here, but far better than anything they had before. It'll be interesting to see the Bearcats coverage since Page left and how they go about replacing him.

Chad killed it on the Fick to Michigan State. He was the only news source that I knew stood his ground. Well worth the money.

What good is having a board if you can't go on it and say what you want to say?

Gametime is doing well and all that, but according to a recent tweet it appears he peaked in 99-2000.

RE: BearcatJournal - worth it?
As an update - BCJ was/is running a 75% off deal with a year subscription and I decided to cash in on the deal. Hopefully the content is as good as here and The Athletic.

Thanks all!

Chad’s a friend and does more for UC sports than anyone I know and definitely more than any member of the media over the full spectrum. If you crave detailed coverage and info about your favorite programs, no better way to get both.

You don't see that there anymore either. The genius who came up with that one, is not involved anymore.

Todd Cunningham (at the time, the site owner), wrote this story about how Mike Shanahan was going to be hired by UC. The guy who was leaking info to this and/or other UC free boards was caught red handed.

However, none of the paying members, who also had to read this story, were thrilled. Cunningham is no longer involved in the site, I think due to reasons other than this incident.
