NFL Draft Picks by Conference ... Rounds 1 & 2
A look at the conferences the 64 first and second round draft picks came from:

SEC ...... 15 first, 10 second .... 25
B1G ...... 5 first, 7 second ....... 12
B12 ...... 5 first, 3 second ........ 8
PAC ...... 3 first, 3 second ........ 6
ACC ...... 3 first, 3 second ........ 6
MWC ..... 1 first, 1 second ........ 2
Irish ................... 2 second ..... 2
SBC ......... .......... 1 second ..... 1
FCS .................... 1 second ..... 1
D2 ...................... 1 second ..... 1

AAC ....................... Nothing
MAC ....................... Nothing
CUSA .................... Nothing

There's your talent disparity. Three of the G5 conferences had zippo picks, the SB had one, the MW had two. Notre Dame had two by themselves, more than 4 entire FBS conferences and this was a bad first two rounds for them.

Do they actually chant that at AAC games? One side yells “P6!” other side yells “G4!”

This is also why you can't pay attention to people who say recruiting "star" ratings are irrelevant. They aren't everything, they are sometimes wrong. But they are far from irrelevant. The schools and conferences that get the most high-star guys also send the most guys to the NFL.

Pioneer League player, TE Adam Trautman from Dayton, selected near the end of the 3rd round. Highest Pioneer League draft choice ever, AFAIK. Only other one I can think of is Josh Johnson, who was a 5th round pick several years ago.

14 of the first 23 picks went to schools in the 4 team playoff, (16 of 32)

That may be a better way to look at it.

Pioneer had two 5th round picks in 2017, Eric Saubert, TE Drake, and Jamal Agnew, CB San Diego. Trautman is probably the highest drafted PFL player though

Too bad my Eagles didn't get the memo. They could have drafted a WR from the national champions but settled for a WR from TCU. Of course they got an Oklahoma ... quarterback.

Still no USF or UCF picks. Sheesh. You guys must have great coaches.

Last year, over the seven rounds of the draft, the G5 shook out as:

AAC ............... 11
Mountain West: 10
MAC: .............. 9
C-USA: ............ 6
Sun Belt: ......... 1

App State had a 3rd rounder, so the SB has already beaten last year's tally, LOL. We'll see how this year compares.

Well of course, but I don't need to watch film on the class of 2020 or look at recruiting rankings to know the SEC will send more guys to the NFL than any G5 league.

People who are skeptical of recruiting rankings are skeptical of how they judge G5 classes. I've noticed the Sun Belt's recruiting rankings creep upward as it's done better compared with CUSA and the MAC, not the reverse. I've also noticed that there seems to be player rating inflation across the G5.

You see that discussion in the P5 as well. There is a belief that when guys get pursued by LSU and Ohio State, their rankings go up compared to if they are pursued by Iowa State and Kentucky.

Lenoir-Rhyne producing a high a NFL draft pick is amazing. I had to search for them and they’ve only been mentioned one time ever on this board — by DavidSt in 2017.

It is a football-only FCS league of teams that don't offer football scholarships but do have scholarship athletes in their other sports.

We have a lot of young players, Gabe Davis is really our only sure draft pick. Wilcox is the only prospect for USF, correct?

The story is 4 or 5 teams (at most) separating themselves from the rest of FBS.

LSU had 10 players chosen in the first 3 rounds this week and Alabama had 9. Having one NFL-quality player on your team is very nice, but having 4 or 5 out of your 11 on the field on both offense and defense? That's how a team has a great shot at a national title, instead of just being happy for the one guy on the team who was drafted.

The number of players drafted from a conference doesn't help any of its teams to be playoff contenders. College football doesn't work like Little League baseball where you send an all-star team from your town's league to the playoffs.
