Bryce Drew?
So are you GCU guys excited about Bryce Drew? Nothing like the hype when you hired Majerle although in all fairness this Covid-19 crap has put a damper on everything. Did you GCU guys think Majerle should have got one more year? Are you happy with Drew hire? Whats the feel among the students about the hire? Is Drew going to come flying down the rafters in a batman costume?

RE: Bryce Drew?
Majerle's contract was up, so a one year "prove it" extension would've just been awkward. In terms of coaching, we probably won't know if we are getting the Valpo or Vandy Bryce Drew for a couple seasons. In terms of recruiting, he has gotten a lot done in a little time under really strange circumstances. We'll see if/how it keeps up.

What I probably like most are the comments I've heard from Drew and staff about developing young men into strong leaders and citizens in the GCU community, as well as husbands and father's in the future. I don't know much about Majerle's interest or investment in players beyond just basketball, but Drew & staff seem committed to those aspects of players as well.

That's a little sappy for a fan forum, so I will stick with how good or bad a basketball hire Drew is remains TBD. He just seems like a good dude.

As a person he seems like a great guy. Humble, god fearing and sincere. You are spot on about what kind of coach he will be. Hard to tell. Majerle is an arrogant jack@ss. GCU is better off without him in the long run IMO. BTW, changed my avatar in honor of the Majerle departure!

RE: Bryce Drew?
Majerle's name gave a transitioning GCU program credibility in a very saturated Arizona sports market, which was evident in the number of casual sports fans here who thought GCU did Dan dirty. I appreciate what Daniel brought to the table early, but he peaked in Year 3 and GCU probably should've moved on after Year 5.

To the point I think you and maybe Pistol made, I don't think there is a lack of excitement about Drew. Unfortunately, his hire just happened to coincid with the explosion of these very strange times we're living in, so I just don't believe Drew is top of mind. That, and I honestly think some of us who follow GCU closely are just burned out on the hype.

I'm not giving up my season tickets and won't stop supporting the team, but stop telling me how good the players/team are and just show it. I don't even know if we should expect a winning record next season, but if Drew can assemble a team that plays tough and for each other, it will be refreshing.

Also, don't sleep on GCU's hire of Coach Molly Miller on the women's side. I really have no expectations that she replicates her D2 success out of the gates at GCU, but you can hear in her interviews that Coach Miller is a different breed of competitor. If her teams at GCU take on that same mentality, I think WBB could easily beat MBB in being the first of our basketball programs to make the NCAA tourney.

With the crazy times, fear, and sadness going on in the world right now, I'm just trying to use the anticipation of Aggie sports (basketball) as a distraction; with hope of better days ahead. Not diminishing the real life problems going on in the world, the my biggest fear sports wise is "if" there is a 2020-21 basketball season, it might go off to the roars of silent as arenas remain empty; as student/athletes try to remain healthy; isolating away from the general population. I am hopefully a working vaccine will be developed soon. So, we can all get back to our somewhat "normal" daily lives... and being able to go into large crowds without fear.

RE: Bryce Drew?
My fear is 2020-2021 is gonna be worse with a 2nd wave of COVID and no sports for the rest of this year/going into next.
