RE: SEVERELY Premature Basketball Rotation (2020-2021)

It seems like a consensus on this Board that we see James as the better player- much more versatile offensively. But Murphy did not seem to share that perspective- probably precisely because Spottsville was the better defender. We’ll see I suppose. Nonetheless, I am VERY excited about the coming season!!
Very good point Ramy.
I placed Spottsville third based on talent, but you’re right to assume that Murphy will probably start him.

Let’s give this another shot:
PG- McBride, Lowder, Spotsville
SG- Montero, James
SF- Morgan, Gibson
PF- Groce, Binelli, Pacheco
C- Love III, Okongo, Ballard (Non-scholarship)
One open scholarship.
Strangely enough, it looks like we actually have good depth in the frontcourt now.
I think we’re just going to give Ballard a scholarship. HOWEVER: If we are going to add someone, I’m thinking a plug-and-play SF, or a traditional sit-out transfer at any position other than PG. In the current basketball landscape, I don’t think it’s worth getting a developmental high school prospect. They just transfer anyway...
As an honorary Texan, I’d like to see us take a shot at SF Deshawn Corprew. He had a HUGE role on the Texas Tech team that went to the finals. He is good enough to be the best player on this team. The problem is that he was kicked off of Tech for a bar assault, so his career might be over. I’d still look into it.
What say you?
Thankfully, with two legit 7 footers, we likely won’t have see Binelli in the middle of the zone unless someone gets hurt (knock on wood). I expect us to play a lot faster this coming year, and I think Lowder and McBride will play together a lot. One (or two) of Spottsville, Morgan, and Montero will probably see a big decrease in minutes. Especially if Gibson is solid.

Man, the rotation you’d like to see would be perfect. I think Murphy will do a combination of those two. He loves defense, but I think Lowder will be too good to sit. Morgan was falling out of favor until the last game when he exploded for 30 points, and Chris James slowly crept back into the rotation because of how good he was at the top of the zone (for a freshman, no less). McBride will have to earn minutes over him.
Murphy also loves Binelli, as you’re predicting. I’m sure he will start. I’ll say:
Lowder
James
Groce
Binelli
Love
Wouldn’t be shocked at all if Montero starts over James. I can see all of Morgan, Montero, James, and McBride playing 15ish minutes a game until conference play starts. It’s nice to have lots of options, but trusting Murphy to properly utilize them is a whole different animal. Let’s hope Lowder scores lots of points.

Nice analysis - Don’t disagree whatsoever. I have to say I’d be pretty fired up if James is starting at some point!
