Makes sense, given his decision. He's betting on himself this year, hoping to smash it in 20-21 and parlay that success into a better opportunity for 21-22.

Not a bad idea if you know you're going to spend most of your Soph. season on the bench in Ypsilanti.

Damari Paris to Prairie View A&M. I’m surprised he was able to land at a D1 school.

Honestly I am not surprised. He actually is a very good ball handler and defender and has some serious quicks, as a result he started most of the games early in the season two years ago. Unfortunately for him, Paul Jackson was a ball dominant point guard and McAdoo's shooting ability complemented him better.

I think Dillard is making a sound decision to head to junior college. He has incredible raw potential but he needs to find out if he is a guard or a wing and then concentrate on developing those skill sets for his future.

Both of these players were the right guy at the wrong time for EMU. I wish them both well in their future.

We must be a farm team for Tallahassee since Stephens and Silver also ended up there. Unfortunately we don't get any JUCOs back from that JUCO.

Silver had 27 offers many from P5 division 1 schools. I would expect Dillard to get the similar results going down the same path. Best of luck to him, really wish he stayed and with a prominent role.

I am surprised in the sense that Paris tried to transfer last year, but had no D1 interest. That is why he stuck around and redshirted this year while he developed his game. Murphy really did him a solid.

I wish him well.

Marcus Gibbs transferring.

Not a scholarship guy, but good luck sir! Hope he finds a good home.

Yeah I didn’t expect him to see the court much, especially with McBride and Lowder coming in. But wow, these late transfers are surprising. It’s almost July.

He had potential and would have maybe gotten a scholie next year. I am guessing but he may join Dillard down at a JUCO. Besides two scholie slots we will have some openings next year for walk ons to fill out the roster. In all this late hot mess I wonder if Ballard will get a scholie and King does in fact come back.

I too thought of Ballard getting an unfilled scholarship.

RE: SEVERELY Premature Basketball Rotation (2020-2021)
Yeah, barring any late changes, I assume Ballard gets a scholarship and a chance at some real minutes. We have basically no other options at center off the bench (assuming Lang starts). Murphy will try Binelli there again, but will eventually tire of his lack of defense.

This is a perfect year to get away from the slow pace, defense-oriented strategy and play a full court game. But I can’t see Murphy doing that in a make-or-break year. It’s a recipe for disaster if our new guards don’t score a ton of points.

As it stands now, I also think Pacheco is going to get a lot of minutes at C. He’s thick and tough, and was mostly a C in high school.

Love was listed as a forward with KSU.

I'm thinking it might be good if EMU is a bit of a donut team. It's not like Murphy has gotten anywhere with a strong C and a mediocre perimeter. Change the dynamics of the team and force them to be better at the perimeter. If it works the great. If not then turn the page.

I do think we need to play WAY faster this coming season. Murphy’s best offensive season was the 17/18 squad that ran other teams off of the floor. Now that Toure is gone, maybe this is our chance run in transition. McBride looks like he likes to push the pace, and all of our guards and wings can run, so let’s see some more tempo.

Our half court offense has always been a disaster, and we are great at turning opponents over. It makes too much sense.

Amen Sam! Our half court offense in the recent past has been an abject failure. I realize Murph has wanted to "shorten" the game by chewing up the shot clock and win with his defense, but that clearly has not worked. We do not have a feature offensive threat this year but as Ramy adroitly pointed out we do have depth. Attempting an active running offensive game with the Lee, Thompson, Minnie, Jackson and Mangum star half court offensive performers would have been problematic due to the fatigue those guys would have incurred.

The roster this coming season has no player that has no adequate substitute, let them run! Also you could dial up the full court press on occasion.

Great points, Jerry. Especially about running with the depth. It was an underused advantage last year, and even more an ppportunity this year. Hopefully Murphy realizes it this time around.

Really, who is better group of guards: Spottsville/Montero or Lowder/McBride/James? Last years started could realistically be coming off the bench

Center by committee (as Steve likes to say): let Love, Ballard, and Pacheco hustle it out for 10-15 min each. This of course depends on how good Love actually is.

To a lesser or perhaps unknown extent, I feel comfortable with Groce/Morgan being spelled by Binelli/Gibson.

To me we got our difference maker in Lowder who is the one player we added that could make everyone else on this roster better when he is on the court. I expect players like Montero and Morgan to be our forwards. I really would like us to add a raw talent prep or frosh player to redshirt.

RE: SEVERELY Premature Basketball Rotation (2020-2021)
Roster Update!

Let’s give this another shot:
PG- McBride, Lowder, Spotsville
SG- Montero, James
SF- Morgan, Gibson
PF- Groce, Binelli, Pacheco
C- Love III, Okongo, Ballard (Non-scholarship)

One open scholarship.

Strangely enough, it looks like we actually have good depth in the frontcourt now.

I think we’re just going to give Ballard a scholarship. HOWEVER: If we are going to add someone, I’m thinking a plug-and-play SF, or a traditional sit-out transfer at any position other than PG. In the current basketball landscape, I don’t think it’s worth getting a developmental high school prospect. They just transfer anyway...

As an honorary Texan, I’d like to see us take a shot at SF Deshawn Corprew. He had a HUGE role on the Texas Tech team that went to the finals. He is good enough to be the best player on this team. The problem is that he was kicked off of Tech for a bar assault, so his career might be over. I’d still look into it.

What say you?

RE: SEVERELY Premature Basketball Rotation (2020-2021)
Do you guys really think Spottsville slumps to third string? Very possible given the arrival of Lowder and McBride. But wondering if James gets ahead of him. It seems like a consensus on this Board that we see James as the better player- much more versatile offensively. But Murphy did not seem to share that perspective- probably precisely because Spottsville was the better defender. We’ll see I suppose. Nonetheless, I am VERY excited about the coming season!!
