Ark State
Southern Miss
South Alabama
UAB

I guess La Tech and Ark State could flip flop (although Jonesboro is east of all the LA schools) if La Tech wanted to be in same division as its fellow LA schools.

Eastern C-USA / Sun Belt
West Division
WKU
MTSU
Troy
Georgia State
Marshall
Georgia Southern

East Division
App State
Charlotte
FIU
FAU
Coastal Carolina
ODU

This is actually intriguing, to me at least.

That's one reason many don't like CUSA. Too many schools don't have fanbases.

We still have jobs.

Don't remember who else... but would love it to be a football only conference. Basketball and olympic sports need to be even more regional (non-football conference like the A10 where we can get 8-9 schools within a 5 hour drive)

ODU is within five hours of VCU, Richmond, George Mason and George Washington. The Philly schools are borderline because you need the traffic to break your way to make it in 5, at least per Google Maps.

I don't think there's any conferences where a team can have 8-9 opponents within five hours.

RE: Conference Descrambler: Reorganizing C-USA, Sun Belt, and a few others ...
The dialogue on this thread seems to fall into 2 main camps - people/schools located in the "east" and focus on football. NMSU currently has by far the best basketball program of all the schools listed. UTEP and NMSU have the best basketball traditions. UTEP: Don Haskins and a national championship. NMSU: Lou Henson and a final four.

When I voted, I tried to pick the 10 western schools. I wasn't voting for my "favorite" schools. It seems logical to break things up and have more regional conferences.

Now that is a conference with regional interests and very good rivalries for all.

Screw the Florida schools. They have no fan interest. Coastal is small time. They don’t belong in FBS and last I looked, a tiny basketball arena. Liberty has too much money and Farewell does whatever he wants. Not a good conference partner. The rest are too far away to care about. Like S. Miss. but would have to drop an Alabama school to grab them. Geographically they fit better with La. and Texas schools than VA and NC anyway.

Had that but with USM and LaTech over Troy and UNCC. Adds some history and tradition while not isolating one school in Virginia and uses UAB to bridge. Could easily put in Charlotte and Troy for 12 team model.

Okay ... here we go ... some complete data sets on fan bases that have submitted the most and ergo have the most representative data.

Votes by James Madison fans

Which of these best describes your current mood toward your current conference affiliation?
(JMU only) I'd rather stay FCS 3.92%
Perfectly happy, keep it as-is 3.92%
(NMSU/Liberty/JMU only) I'd rather join whatever forms out of C-USA/Sun Belt in my region 45.10%
Too spread out, we need to refocus on a regional conference 47.06%

I didn't expect JMU fans to be that interested in geography as well but a peek of the CAA football only affiliates shows it to be very New England heavy.

How do you feel about partial membership, specifically schools in for all sports other than football like UT-Arlington and UA-Little Rock?
I have no problem with partial members 45.10%
No partial members for me thanks 54.90%

Rank the other 9 teams (10 teams = FB title game) you want in your conference from most preferred to least. Be sure to KEEP SCROLLING TO THE RIGHT ----> (and Coastal Carolina is accidentally last)

I didn't exhaust the math on that ... but offhand nobody else looked like they batted in enough consistent 5% rounds or big double digit rounds. Feel free to double check me on those excluded.

That's great. Thanks for tossing that together.

Once this is given enough time to circulate and collect more responses can you share the csv? Would like to pivot that data around.

Now processing Marshall since the folks at HerdFans voted early and often (you guys also vote in Chicago?) and now have the highest vote count.

Water under the bridge now. Nine is perfect for scheduling, this will still get us good data for all the plausible sizes (9-12 + optional non-FB).
