RE: W&M ephemera memories
Found this online, recently. It is an old student ticket book, from 1948-1949 season. It is now a part of my collection.

Ticket #4 was for the first men's home basketball game of the season. There were only 3 home football games in 1948.

..and how many trees were in fromt of the Wren Building. You probably couldn't see it very well, if at all, from DOG Street.

The architects probably took it at the very start of the Colonial Wmbg restoration.

As someone whose career has always been in aviation, it amazes me that this picture was taken - from this altitude - in the 1920's. Not an easy task at that time. I wonder if it was taken from a hot air balloon since it is a very stable picture - something very difficult from a moving airplane.

W&M also has a little bit of history in aviation in Virginia:

OK, nerdiness done.

Per CW Foundation, the photo is dated from 1928. No word on whether it was by balloon or airplane.

Yes, this photograph is exceptionally clear. I can even Sandy waving from the women's dorm.

Don't forget W&M had its own air force in the 20s and 30s...two biplanes through which they offered students flying training.
Some photos might have been taken from these planes.

The Airport Road exit off Richmond Road is the road that led to the W&M airport.

Probably not, the Flight School was founded, by President Chandler, in 1931. So, this photo was a little early for that.
