RE: History of William & Mary Mascots
The W&M player running with the ball in 1948 is none other than the legendary Jack "Flyin" Cloud. I recognize his face and, if you look carefully, one is able to see both the 5 and 0 of his famous number 50.
Having served on Taylor's mascot search committee I was involved with Taylor throughout the very thorough search which ended up with our Griffin...much was decided in lunches he and I would have periodically throughout the process. Taylor is a grand guy and it was a wonderful experience working with him. At one point he had me research the names of groups, herds, and swarms of every animal and insect on Earth and when I came up with a three-page, single-spaced list for him. Hewas flabbergasted at the size of it and said, tongue-in-cheek, he would have put in the College library!
Taylor was the most unassuming, down to earth college president...but brilliant and decisive.

I was wondering who the players were in the photo! It's a great shot -- but impossible to tell even which player is the W&Mer without further context.
Thanks! Also interesting insight to Pres. Reveley and the search process.
