CAA Spending
Since reading through the JMU boards is always a pleasure, I decided to help fuel the fire over there, however it is a decent discussion point. What do schools spend in our league and is our trend appropriate for desired results?
2016:
UNCW: 2.98M
JMU: 2.91M
Drexel: 2.86M
Northeastern: 2.74M
Hofstra: 2.61M
Delaware: 2.47M
Charleston: 2.42M
William & Mary: 2.07M
Towson: 1.95M
Elon: 1.88M
2018:
W&M: 3.97M
Charleston: 3.29M
Elon: 3.22M
Northeastern: 3.21M
Hofstra: 2.94M
Delaware: 2.79M
Drexel: 2.76M
JMU: 2.71M
UNCW: 2.32M
Towson: 2.26M
This is just total expenses. We were #3 in spending in 2016 (Spiker's first season). We spend less now and are now #7 in the conference. Obviously we had bought out Bruiser in his final year so we were spending more than normal, but it our trend of spending a good thing? Our conference peers have seemingly upped their games and we have seemingly stayed stagnant. Obviously schools like CofC are spending a fortune on coaching staffs, but it is interesting that we have a cheaper coach than before (I think) which means our spending has gone up elsewhere, but only slightly. Spending 500K-1.2M less than the top teams to me is a concern. Granted we have not had a lot of reasons to spend more (i.e. more revenue coming in to offset) but half a million bucks a year is pretty significant disadvantage.
