He ended up having to backtrack due to the bad press and offered for them to stay with the team.
Only Clevinger ever suited up again though. He was a crowd favorite. Believe he may have scored the final basket in the Richmond Midnight Madness game.

RE: Hoops transfers forecast
I remember thinking at the time that the papers were making a big deal out of what happened. JMU hired a big name coach who was able to upgrade the roster. JMU did the right thing by honoring their scholarships. Lefty upgraded the program and the guys he cut had their college paid for. There are way worse things that have been done to people.

"Georgetown Hoyas transfer Mac McClung has announced his top seven schools that he is considering to continue his basketball career.
McClung is deciding between Texas Tech, Auburn, Memphis, USC, BYU, Arkansas and Wake Forest.
The sophomore combo guard has two years of eligibility remaining and will have to sit a year as voting on one-time transfer waivers is postponed for another season. "
I was wondering where McClung was transferring to.
I had not read on the boards here yet of the decision about the transfer rule.

Putting McClung aside, that is big news over the last hour with regards to JMU's transfers in.

I think if ideally JMU can get waivers for 2- one front court and one backcourt that would be good. As much as I’d love to see the center right away if he red shirts along with Hodge from Louisiana it won’t be the worst thing.

Maybe its good for JMU to have this happen this season. They will already have an exciting new group of guys, new coaches and a terrific new facility to show off. And this season may be quite handicapped for fan attendance and may even be canceled, mid-season. So, 2021-22 season will be an incredible year!

Byington in interviews has been optimistic about getting waivers for at least 2-3 players, just based on how the NCAA has treated similar situations in the past. I don't think they will all be sitting out.

Yep, there was a time not long ago when I closely watched balancing of classes on the roster. That is, not too overly heavy with a bunch of sophs or juniors or whatever. In this transfer era and all, I don't even care about it anymore. It's kinda sad but it is what it is. Each year looks like a pro roster of returning guys and "free agents" (aka transfers). How college head basketball coaches stay sane year to year not knowing what they are going to have the following season is beyond me.

Exactly. Look at Duke's roster. Freshman phenoms who are off to the NBA after Year 1 and a squad of backups who get some minutes.
I wouldn't want to deny a kid a bazillion-dollar contract, but "one year and done" hurts the college game. Being more in line with football rules would make the sport more enjoyable, I think, but then again, why should Trevor Lawrence be forced to play college ball when Zion Williamson is not?

Player unions, and what they’re willing to accept. While neither wants veterans replaced by kids barely out of high school, it’s easier for the NBA players accept it when those veterans bumped off the roster can make a good paycheck overseas. What is there for the NFL player? Plus the physicality of the NFL needs a more developed athlete that can sustain that punishment.

RE: Hoops transfers forecast
I posted this a couple of days ago if anyone missed it...the topic is exactly what the past few posts have been wondering about
------
Mettlen must be back at work, he had a good article on our incoming transfers ( https://www.dnronline.com/sports/transfe...6557b.html)
Looks like Hodge (PG from UL-Monroe) is taking a redshirt.
Byington quoted on the "run off rule" where players who get run off by a new coaching staff can apply for a waiver. Apparently last year it was close to 80% of those players were approved.
Byington is looking at Morse, Mensah and Taylor who saw less playing time last year and apparently that is a factor in the run off rule as well. He states again, like he has over the past couple of weeks, that he thinks a couple of the transfers will be approved to play right away.

I liked Wilson and I would have liked to see Wilson stay but I think Mensah is going to tear up the CAA.

What? Purplehazed is actually posting something other than the same ole dribble about how incompetent our administration is. The apocalypse is upon us people. Run for your lives.

Mensah, in particular, is a HUGE get! Hazed is only acknowledging that. That's a good thing.

Yes but it is unusual for him to post anything but criticism of our administration and the doom our football program shall experience in FCS.
