Shy Surviving no JMU Athletics
Just wanted to start a thread where folks might share what things they are up to these days to "get through". Don't want anything political or debating the good or bad of the actions that have led us to this point.

I have enjoyed a whooooole bunch of 80's Alternative YouTube videos. Enjoying some old John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten) interviews thanks to YouTube as well. I've connected with at least 20 more old acquaintances via LinkedIn that I shamefully had forgotten about over the years.

My much better half has again proven she can kick my ice in gin rummy over and over again. And, adult beverages have been consumed at rates I should not be discussing, but what the hell.

You?

Youtube / Netflix / Hulu for the win.

That and finally finishing unpacking and organizing the new house (that we've been working on since Dec.)

As far as JMU athletics, I wouldn't know until late Aug/early Sept.

pretty much hasn't changed anything for my routine... just no games to watch on TV (not that I watch a lot of it anyway)

I finally got around to organizing and cataloging my comic book collection. So there's some positives to come out of this shutdown I guess. I'd still rather watch the Dukes kicking butt on the field.

RE: Surviving no JMU Athletics
I work from home so not affecting my full-time job much at the moment. We have a huge park near us so we went there yesterday and went walking and then watched a bunch of TV. Plan on going to the park or beach almost every afternoon. Have my own weights so I can still work out. I coach track & field at a Palm Beach County high school and PBC shut schools down for this week and has spring break next week. We are missing two meets this week. So far the FHSAA or counties have not cancelled the spring sports seasons entirely so I am being optimistic that we will have District/Region/State in April and May. Sent the athletes workouts so they can still do workouts and keep their fitness level up.

RE: Surviving no JMU Athletics
JMU sports I'm in to were done anyway, I would watch softball when it gets to tournament time but with baseball/softball in general I'm only really a big enough fan of those sports to enjoy tournament/playoffs and going in person. I definitely am missing hockey and March Madness though, rewatched the 2006 basketball national championship and rewatched "SEC Storied: Repeat After Us"(which is great if you haven't seen it). I'll probably rewatch some games from the Caps' Cup run.

A world without sports sure would suck.

RE: Surviving no JMU Athletics
Well, I WOULD have been watching lots of rugby this time of year. And naturally March Madness. But I'm walking dogs for the SPCA shelter in Harrisonburg 2-3 days a week and enjoying it tremendously. It gets me outdoors and gets me plenty of exercise and the doggies like it, and in return I get lots of love from them, so that's a benefit. Mr. OTP and I are gearing up for another rock show season, which for us starts in September. He does lapidary and also sells slabs and rough, and I'm a jewelry designer. Hopefully by then shows go as planned. And of course the garden needs attention.

Has the defending NCAA champion in men’s basketball every played at JMU? With all this cancellation stuff we have the defending NCAA champs coming to the AUBC/Vault/Bank/New Convo/House that Alger built, or whatever it is going to be called, next season.

RE: Surviving no JMU Athletics
Hey guys - if you're missing live sports as much as I am, feel free to tune in tonight to the FODL. We're an online darts league played remotely by webcam started by a bunch of JMU guys. You might even recognize a few faces from the boards. We play online with a broadcaster (former JMU madizone broadcasters, at that) remotely and are therefore quarantine free. We've been doing this for a couple of years -started with 6 players and now have 40.

We have multiple divisions and use promotion and relegation like the English Premier League.
https://www.twitch.tv/fodartleague

There are two matches tonight that start at 8 - one a B division matchup with relegation on the line, and then a C division playoff game.

It's all on Twitch - free to watch but sign up and follow us if you like or want to join the discussion in the chat!

Doing some decluttering of the house, lots of naps and walking 8 miles a day. Also spending major quality time in my shop building my RC model airplanes.

Evenings I read.

RE: Surviving no JMU Athletics
Side note and no surprise really, but he SEC and ACC both today officially cancelled the rest of the year's athletics (spring sports). There had been some discussion that they were meeting early this week to discuss possibly coming back for a shortened season in late April through May and into June. As expected, just no way forward with that now.

Tomerr start the site work for a shed on the south forty, need a place for the firewood and all the old tools that don’t work any longer.

RE: Surviving no JMU Athletics
Re-visiting this 2 weeks later...

...while I'd much rather be focused on the Softball Dukes, The Masters 10 days away and the Final Four coming up...

...I do have to say I am glad I found the Create TV channel via Public Television. I've learned a lot on cooking shows and some travel shows that have been intriguing. I never in my life thought I'd say something like that, but hey I'll give credit where it is due. Public TV and Create channel has a new fan in me.

(note, Governor Northam just issued a formal Stay-At-Home executive order for the state of Virginy)
