This morning my wife saw a tweet from someone that ten years ago today, 2/14/2010 the Lady Dukes beat ODU for the CAA Championship at the Convo.
The wife and I were at the game sitting next to the Pep Band on the mellophone/trumpet side where the older daughter was playing the mellophone in her last appearance with the Pep Band. She graduated that May. Was a great game and a great time after the win.

What is special about this is that the next day on Monday the Washington Post ran a fairly decent sized article about the game and included a large photo of Coach Brooks and Dawn Evans hugging at the conclusion of the game. The photo was taken towards the Pep Band end of the Convo and you can clearly see myself and the wife in the stands and our daughter in the band. I sent the article/picture to Coach Brooks and he and Dawn were kind enough to sign it for me. While it has faded a bit and browned somewhat over the past ten years it is still very clear and holds a lot of good memories for me and the wife.

Yea, this is just one of a million otherwise little things that really sucks about all this.

Yes, I know the life and death gravity of this, but these type things are never made back up. Feel really bad for the student athletes that put all the time and effort into this year round, that many of them will never play their sport at a high level again.

I remember that day well. Sitting with the group of friends I have sat with forever....we almost held our breath until the end of the game. And at the end....tears streaming down our faces, we went out on the court to congratulate the team and coaches. Such a special day!!
