Thanks Coach Burke
While I’m very excited about the new and coming Basketball era at UNCW, I believe Coach Burke deserves due recognition here for what he did for our program over the last couple months.
I do hope he realizes how much impact he had on fans as much as I know he realizes he had impact in the locker room. He is an incredible class act, and he along with the staff and players that remained deserve due praise for the effort and work they put in. The fact that he was a top finisher for the job proves his value as a Seahawk in a very short tenure, but one that won’t be soon forgotten.
Here’s to hoping he gets his deserving chance as a permanent HC in the D1 ranks sooner rather than later.
Thanks Coach, and I wish you all the best!

Kudos to you for starting this thread. Coach Burke took over an unbelievably difficult situation and made the best of it. The program was in shambles and he restored a passion for basketball that had been gone for 2.5 years. Getting this team to 5 wins in conference play was unbelievable. Coach Siddle and his staff will benefit from the work ethic he instilled over the last 6 weeks of the season. He also made it clear to the players what being a Seahawk was about. Best of luck Coach! I look forward to following you at your next stop!

RE: Thanks Coach Burke
Coach Burke did more than anyone could have imagined for this team. He has become one of my favorite coaches in a very short time. He will definitley be a guy I follow for the rest of his career and I hope he succeeds and proves he would have been a great head coach for UNCW had we hired him.
I will say this. Burke may be in the exact spot as Siddle was. Not quite ready. But you never know what the future holds. I'm as surprised as anyone that we circled back around and hired Siddle. Wouldn't shock me a bit to see Burke on our sideline one day and i'd be as excited as I am right now for Siddle.
Thanks again Burke.

RE: Thanks Coach Burke
Been lurking for several months with no posts, but I am beginning to get the excitement back for UNCW basketball again. I, too would like to express my appreciation to Coach Burke, I know of nothing more he could have done to revive interest in our basketball program. The fact he made the selection a difficult one says a lot about his quality as a person and coach. Many thanks, I sincerely hope and also think your time will come, and I will follow your career wherever that takes you. All best wishes.

RE: Thanks Coach Burke
Coach Burke, you are a class act. You are a phenomenal coach who made not only the players but the students want to crush through a brick wall for you. That is a unique gift, and I have no doubt it will be appreciated under the right leadership. You revived the student spirit in a group of student Hawks and gave them some of their most memorable moments at UNCW for what unfortunately might be their last until next year. You've won this longtime Seahawk household over!

RE: Thanks Coach Burke
Coach Burke thank you for reinjecting a sense of passion and pride into our program. I took my boys to that Northeastern game and I felt like it was 2006 and I was in the student section again. An underdog team fighting and playing above their weight class is what made me a UNCW fan and you were able to recapture that winning formula.
You deserve a tremendous amount of credit for your positivity and giving everyone a sense of belief. You are going to be a D1 head coach someday and I will be cheering for your success when that day happens

I think he's been in quarantine, and may still be in that status.

Tough spot for these guys to be in . Get fired and can't really move around other than phone calls. Losing the Final 4 is also a bad deal for these guys because that is a huge gathering of the coaching fraternity. Maybe he feels like there is nothing to say-he got fired and so did the assistants.

I don't interpret that situation as him being fired. He was essentially promoted with the opportunity to compete for the full time position. I think "fired" is a stretch in that capacity.

I see your point, but whether you get "fired" or "laid off" you are still looking for a job. Same end result.

He got fired no doubt about it. Call it whatever you want but when you use your job and somebody else ids doing it-you got fired. I am not a PC kinda guy and I doubt Burke thinks he got laid off.

McGrath got fired and got all his assistants fired in the process as always. Burke was given an opportunity to audition for a job but didn't get it. Those are the facts.

Yeah, absolutely. I really feel for him and the assistants. They did, IMO, an astounding job finishing the season with what was handed to them. It's an unfortunate situation they're in now, but I don't consider them "fired". That word has worse connotations than how that situation actually played out, just my opinion though.

He had a job and now someone else has that job -fired. You don't have to like it but it's a tough world out here and he is out of a job. Simple as that-unemployed and looking for a gig. I wouldn't expect you to be able to understand that.

C'mon, I'm not a PC guy either but Burke didn't get "fired." He was not given the HC job when he took over. He was named interim coach to finish the rest of the season. Thats it. He wanted the HC job and was given a chance to interview for the open position. Im sure he had to fill out an application just like all the other candidates.
Siddle was named interim coach right after Keatts left for State. He wanted the job and I'm sure submitted an application. He was not chosen. He was hired as an assistant at State as a result. I wouldn't say he got "fired" either.
