Not sure if that would just be for those whose seasons had not yet ended, but would seem to be a pretty big competitive imbalance if they didn't do it for everyone. Doubt Knight would come back though, and realistically it would not be particularly smart of him to.

I get the short term desire but big picture there is no reason to do this.

It is still a bit of a Pandora's Box, so don't know that it will actually happen (for winter sports athletes)

It is absolutely ridiculous! First off, a bunch of seniors (like Knight) already finished their seasons --- why on earth would they deserve another year back? However, the absolute biggest problem with it is logic: whatever your reasons and justifications are for letting seniors return (such as failure to finish their conference tournament, failure to play in the NCAAT, etc) those EXACT SAME REASONS COULD APPLY TO UNDERCLASSMEN, TOO! That is, Eva Hodgson lost out on her chance to win the CAAT this year just as much as Victoria Reynolds or Kamiah Smalls did. So why wouldn't Eva want an additional year to make up for it just as much as the Seniors (that is, they ALL lost one chance, regardless of what year of eligibility they are). So is the NCAA going to give everybody another year?

I couldn't help noticing that it was the blue blood programs who initiated this -- you know, the ones who have all the recruiting advantages anyway.

Now, spring sports like baseball, lacrosse, or track --- I could see those sports giving ALL the athletes another year if the student wanted it (and, if so, the school would have to honor it (ha, the sleazy programs would probably deny admission to graduate school if they wanted to get back a scholarship from a marginal player)).

It is obviously too messy and too complex. They all need to just face it: sh*t happens!

I think you are right, but the college basketball blue bloods are unhappy that their seniors were denied an NCAA run. No telling how they will rule when the big boys push things.

They are more unhappy about the lost NCAA money from winning games that they get and potential title banners to hang, but go ahead and kid yourself into believing its abut the kids.

I mean, yes, return on investment is what they ultimately are worried about. They aren't going to say it that way. It's always going to be labled about being for the student athletes.
