That is especially true considering that the natatorium was listed on the "wish list" when the billion dollar campaign was first announced. Who knows how many people gave a few bucks with that in mind and now are told that the college has changed their priorities?
Even earlier, several years ago, I mentioned actually
spending some of the billion dollar endowment on necessary athletic endeavors and some poster made a snide comment to the effect of: "do you know what an endowment is?". So, some people just like
having a lot of money but never actually
spending any of it.
The women would have also won the CAA Swimming Championship if we had a diving team. Since the scoring appears to be like track & field where every place in the standings order gives different points, then why not have some swimmers do rudimentary dives, finish in 7th or 8th place, and still pick up enough points to perhaps put W&M over the top?
A recent Tribe article about swimming mentioned that the NCAA record for one particular
dive is held by a male W&M swimmer from the sixties. So, where did he practice? At Blow Gym -- okay, that is gone. At Adair? At a community pool? Drive down to Newport News or Hampton a couple of times a week? C'mon AD folks, think about it. It can be done!
