WBB vs Hofstra 2/23/20
After last nights win over Northeastern up in Beantown the Dukes head down I95 and into Long Island for Sundays game against Hofstra. The Pride has been having a tough year. They are currently 3-22 overall , 0-14 in Conference and on a 16 game losing street. Not sure why they have been so bad this year. The Dukes should be able to get an easy win here but games like this always worry me a bit. I am sure that Coach O will have the team ready to go on Sunday.

RE: WBB vs Hofstra 2/23/20
Dukes head into today holding on in the top 40 at #39 in the RPI. Hofstra being #323 certainly won't help our SOS or RPI.

Huge game on the horizon at the Convo this upcoming Friday against Drexel, whose RPI is now #44 and sitting atop the CAA ahead of JMU by 1 game. The Dragons have won 12 straight, though they were taken to OT in a home win over W&M 2 nights ago.

If JMU wins out, I believe we will get the #2 seed at the CAAT. That assumes Drexel also finishes 16-2. Drexel & JMU would be 1-1 head-to-head, but our other loss in the CAA is to Towson while Drexel's loss is to Charleston. Towson (8-5, 4th place currently) will be a top 6 seed most likely while Charleston (4-9, 8th place currently) will be in the Women's version of the Keener-Rowe Invitational Round. The tie-breaker rules I believe when teams went head-to-head is you start going down the list from the top and whoever has the better record against the next highest seed gets the nod. Because Drexel will be 2-0 in this scenario against Towson while JMU is 1-1, that gives the edge to Drexel.

Having said all that, Drexel has to travel to Towson next Sunday after playing at the Convo Friday night. It is possible Towson could knock them off. Drexel hosts UNCW and Charleston the final weekend...very small chance they will lose either of those. They likely will beat Elon at home today as well.

Oh wait. The thread is about our game at Hofstra today. Sorry. :>)

You shouldn't worry. Hofstra was tied at 30 at halftime before Towson won 71-54. Even if you're tied at halftime, you could win by 20+. Hofstra could become the first team in CAA history to go 0-18.

Hofstra is spectacularly bad this year and I can't figure out why. They didn't lose THAT much from last year.

Dukes blow it open in the 3Q. Now cruising after 3, 64-36. JMU has only committed 3 turnovers thru 30 minutes. That's excellent.

4:30 to go in the game Dukes up 75-44 with Maddie heading to the FT line for 2 shots.

Hofstra is just a bad team, not sure what happened between last year and this year, weird.

RE: WBB vs Hofstra 2/23/20
Well, Hofstra really wasn't all that good last year. They went 11-22 overall and 3-15 in the CAA. They were the 9-seed in the CAAT, won the play-in game over 8-seed Elon by a deuce and then of course upset an injury-riddled Dukes team in the quarterfinals before bowing out by 21 to Towson. Are they worse this year? Yes, definitely. But, they weren't any good last year either.

WP

Yeah they weren't very good last year but to go from 11 wins to 3 makes one wonder what happened.

Dukes win 89-52.

Drexel next Friday.

Go Dukes!!

RE: WBB vs Hofstra 2/23/20
Hofstra lost their best player to graduation last year, suffered the tragic death (due to a fall on stairs) of an assistant coach in the off-season, and has a first-year coach. Still, they have the nucleus of last year's team, including a few pretty decent players, and there's no excuse for them to be this spectacularly awful. It looks to me like they haven't bought into the new coach's system AT ALL.

RE: WBB vs Hofstra 2/23/20
Maybe the new coach isn't that great at making adjustments to the roster. It seems like a good coach should be willing and able to adjust their preferred style to better suit the talents and styles of the players on the team. I have not watched Hofstra (except for the games against JMU), but there might be some defections and transfers this year. It could get worse before it gets better, but that's one outsiders opinion.
