RE: Marcus Thornton Jersey Retired
Marcus may have been the ultimate creator of scoring plays.

We should never forget Marcus turned down many college offers after he'd committed and signed to W&M and been named Maryland Player of the Year. His dad told us that Marcus was, above all, a man of his word
and would never go back on his commitment to the College.

This isn’t exactly a wild statement, but outside of Coach Shaver (and maybe equal with) I view Marcus as the single most important cog to where Tribe basketball is today. If Marcus doesn’t stay committed to the Tribe with other, much bigger offers - I think Tribe basketball is in a much different spot today.

Thank you Marcus, as a Tribe fan you have made an immeasurable impact on the success of this program.

I agree. Chicken or egg...if Shaver hadn't built Tribe MBB to a respectable level, Marcus probably wouldn't have committed in the first place. We owe them equally for all they accomplished.

In no particular order:

No mention of Marcus in the Game Day notes.

No hand-out of any kind memorializing Marcus’ day for those in attendance.

No video presentation re: Marcus.

Marcus’ half-time presentation was shared with the baby race.

We can do better than that.

Agreed, save that the gold t-shirts handed out did have the MT3 logo on them. I'm not sure if that is what you meant by a hand out.

Your list is not a complaint. Just a missed opportunity to do better.

Marcus Thornton. Forever Tribe #3. You're Welcome.

This one really surprised me. It would have been so easy to do and would have been AWESOME.

Many of the athletic department honor ceremonies just come off as so rinky-dink.

Thanks Marcus !!!!

Seems like an appropriate place to share my favorite Marcus story. I still love that he took stage combat as an elective to better learn how to absorb contact when driving to the hoop.

Can our scoreboard support videos? I don't think I've ever actually seen us play one

They managed to hang a hi-def screen over the Pavilion for the unveiling of the Kaplan renovations. Wish they could have done the same for a Marcus highlight reel, especially since most of the current students were still in high school when he was setting records for us.

Hey the current AD had nothing to do with Marcus or his jersey retirement, do you think she would do anything to better the school that didn't involve her. I have always believed she is self centered and would do nothing that didn't better her resume when she is ready to go!!

.....and I don't think that Marcus is a big donor any time soon. As much as that shouldn't matter......it does

My impression of this was that it basically all came together in the last couple of weeks. I agree that lots of those things should have been done.

This was really a low class rinky dink production - I hope W&M at least gave Marcus bus money and a box lunch for his trip back to Paris. The presentation and award "Ceremony" even had to share top billing with the ever popular "baby race". No body who came to honor Marcus was really introduced, or even visible from the stands.

The Athletic Department has been planning for this event for years [or should have been] and it was mostly a question of picking the date for the presentation. Did he get a placque or other remembrance ? If so, I missed that part.

Marcus seemed to have a good time based on his instagram story, and had a dinner at Opus 9.

I guess we only allowed Marcus 2 sides, AD was too cheap to spring for all 3

Shame how the athletic department handled that. Our football practice snippets look better than how we honored Marcus.

Let's hope we get our act together by the time we hang Knight's and Hodgson's jerseys.

They should retire Nathan's jersey at the Elon game.

Huge was probably blowing a gasket noticing that the menu had the "old" W&M "skyline" logo instead of the new cypher logo that they prefer now.

Couldn't find the Tribe basketball pro thread, but this one will do. If you are craving some live sports, Marcus is participating in the TBT tournament playing for Team Hines. 1st game is July 5th at 4pm on ESPN.
