(03-10-2022 10:42 AM)Buc04 Wrote:  The Athletic released a really good article on Forbes a few days ago. It sounds like he has kept a similar game plan that he used at ETSU to replicate his success at Wake.

"He won 75 percent of his games in five years at East Tennessee State by running the program the same way he ran Northwest Florida State before that; he just had more people to help him, is how he puts it. Forbes runs Wake Forest the same way he ran East Tennessee State, albeit with still more people to help him and nicer amenities around every corner. All three of Forbes’ primary assistant coaches worked with him at East Tennessee State, which creates a continuity in voices and consistency in messaging, not to mention a sort of shared brain about what Wake Forest wants in the players it recruits, and what it must avoid. “We know each other’s strengths and know each other’s weaknesses,” assistant coach BJ McKie says. “We’ve been doing this for so long together, it’s almost like clockwork.”

The identity, then, already has translated from job to job, multiple times over. “He brought a lot of his same motives here,” guard Daivien Williamson says. “It’s pretty much basically the exact same thing as it was when we were at ETSU.”

Trying to tamper down the anger and be adult about this — but, I’m still working through ETSU being left holding that old proverbial bag in all that has transpired since Forbes left town. And, it doesn’t help to read that ETSU hires well, that another school is using the ETSU model, has essentially the old ETSU staff, some of the ETSU players, and has ended up as just another springboard school. Of course, that’s just the life of the have (money) and the have-nots (money). Most of my favorite people are likely in the have-nots (wealthy) category.

Recent history has shown most of the schools in the SoCon go through a rebuild when a successful coach leaves. Lamont Paris took a beating his first two years down in Chattanooga, but four years in and he's lighting cigars.

OK, let’s kick it up a notch and get some hate flowing. In retrospect:

Murry Bartow

12 seasons
224-165
3 NCAA trips
1 NIT trip
2 CIT trips
2 losing seasons

Too lazy to look it up — who is the current longest running SoCon coach?

It was Baucom. Dan Earl of VMI is now the longest tenured (7th year). Bob Richey and Lamont Paris are next at 5 years.

Meanwhile in the swamps:

Jon Rothstein (@JonRothstein) Tweeted:
Sources: LSU has parted ways with Will Wade.

Kevin Nickelberry will be the interim head coach. https://twitter.com/JonRothstein/status/...fSZJXreVrQ

I found it funny and telling LSU just cut bait with Wade all while knowing they have a spot in the NCAA tournament. They are a projected 5/6 seed? I don't like the guy either, but dang that speaks volumes.
