RE: Is Majerle finally finished?
I appreciate the effort, SoCal, but facts aren't going to change anyone's mind in this conversation. They'd try to poke holes in any hire. That's just the Aggie way. The reality is we won't know if Drew was a good choice for GCU for another couple of years, let alone within the first 9 hours of his hire.

He has had successes and failures in his career, both as a player and coach. He brings all of those experiences, along with a year of perspective gained with a year away from the game, to GCU. I will say that he seems like a quality person and coach who is interested in developing young men and winning basketball games along the way. This is a welcomed departure from Coach Majerle, and I'm hopeful it all works out.

Unless he brings in a few good recruits it might be a rough year or two at GCU until he can get everything sorted out there. That being said there are a lot of really good players in the transfer portal right now.

You think he can talk some of the commits into staying? Any players going to bail?

I like the hire. It’s not a big splash but its a solid hire. The Summit is more similar to the WAC than it is to the P5. I think some guys are more cut out for the mid majors than for the the P5’s. I also think it’s hard to be at the bottom of the P5 totem pole trying to fight it out with the big dogs. I think he will do well at GCU.

How do you figure? Nevada lost their head coach Eric Musselman and 10 players from the 2018-19 team; including all 5 starters. Given that, Alford still guided Nevada to a 2nd place MWC regular season finish; tied with Utah State and UNLV.
