Marcus Hall-Oliver named new DT coach.
Yes, I know this was already mentioned in the ‘Eddie Whitely New Safeties Coach’ thread, but if the new safeties coach gets a thread, the new DT coach should too.

Welcome aboard Marcus!

One thing I noticed reading this - while it seemed Houston preferred to hire coaches from elsewhere, Cig seems more inclined to develop GA's himself, including some very good coaches already on our staff.

Won't be surprised if some of them eventually climb the ladder and form a Cignetti "coaching tree"

Hope the Cignetti magic touch w/ GAs continues. I like that we might have him for a few years. Of his 7 years in coaching, only 2 were beyond the level of student/grad assistant and those were at the DII level. He's definitely not riding the fast track.

I get the sense that Coach Cig has 100% control over the football program and doesn't seem to have to answer to anyone. Love it.

I have no clue what this means, most HC's are allowed to pick their staff correct?

Didn't they hire Tripp Weaver ? Someone who coached under Houston before? You saying ECU forced that ?

I think the point was that Houston brought Trott as his DC and was let go this year. Word is that there was pressure on Houston to let Trott go.
However, their new DC is Harrell who Houston has a previous history coaching with. Perhaps ECU did put pressure down on Trott for not getting it done, but appears Houston had 100% say in Trott's replacement.

HC's have to answer to superiors, Some get 100% control others are controlled or influenced to some degree by the Admin, AD, donors, accountants, board. Based on the Rivals piece; it appears Coach Cig is in 100% control of the program and our Admin/AD isn't micro managing.

I'm not sure our Admin/AD ever micro managed our HC's. Nothing new here

Lol it's FBS football they get evaluated after every season and they were not good on defense. Trott was probably reluctant to change. Let us win 4 games and see how our admin will respond (football).
