RE: WBB vs Towson 2/9/2020
Apologies in advance for being forgetful, but I see where our next game this upcoming Friday against CoC is at noon on Friday. I know we do this once a year where we play an early Friday game, but for the life of me I can't recall the reason why.

Lil' help???

Beats me. And this Friday isn't a holiday either, so I suspect attendance will be way down. I guess it's for the kiddies. Some places let schools out for these games, and I've heard people refer to them as "scream games." We won't be able to make it.

There were some very questionable calls from the refs, as usual, and one real non-call. The one where Devon and the Towson player with the unpronounceable name (she's from Buffalo so we just called her Tess Buffalo) tussled for the ball, Devon got it, and the Towson player literally put out both hands and *shoved* her....why was that not a flagrant foul? It was quite obviously retaliation and in the old days the Towson player might even have gotten a T. That bald-headed dude just let it go as a regular foul. Same idiot was standing right there when a Towson player was coming down the floor with the ball, Carodine was guarding her, and she shoved Jaylin hard enough to make her fall, not the customary guard move, but a "I'm gonna just stick my hand out and PUSH you" which I did not think was allowed. It happened right in front of us and also right in front of the ref. Not a peep out of him. I understand we have to share refs with the ACC, but do they always have to send us the bottom of the barrel?

I wonder if the CAA pays less money than the ACC for the services of referees? Seems to me, we shouldn't always be getting the short end of the stick if we are sharing equally in the same pool.

I have no idea, but we seem to always get the same jerks.

Great bounce back win by the Lady Dukes. I was a little worried after the blow out last Sunday in Philly.

JMU has Choices on Saturday, so they need something like 12 hours to get the Convo set up for that event. Therefore, they have to play the basketball game early.

I just hope the women bottled and saved some of that “payback” intensity for the CAAT.

RE: WBB vs Towson 2/9/2020
Well wasn't that a fun game to watch?? Despite the fact that my two least favorite refs were working the game....JMU dominated from the very beginning and never let off the gas. I agree with O to P about the foul on Devon and I was calling for her to be tossed but some of my seatmates pointed out that she (#24), although tall, could not move very well and was more of a liability for Towson on the court, so I was not all that disappointed that she stayed in the game.

I thought Towson had more to give but even more evidence that they played lights out and JMU left their game at home when the two teams played at Towson.

Kamiah and Kiki had monster games and every Duke gave great effort today.

See you all at Chic Fil A tonight for nuggets!!

I like every win, and especially the ones with style points, but it's fools gold until we can prove we can win the big games. March will be here soon.

Agree. That February 28, Friday, home game against Drexel looms large. We play much better at home as most teams do, but seems even more pronounced with us. Meaning, the 2 roadies before then (Northeastern and Hofstra) are no gimme's by any means.

I am very curious to see on the 28th what adjustments are made defensively against the Dragons. They really spread us out and made us look like a middle school team up in Philly a week ago.

RE: WBB vs Towson 2/9/2020
Mr. OTP commented that Towson had 3 good players (Jeter, Murray, and Mayo) who couldn't do anything much because the tall players they had actually *hampered* them, being poor movers who couldn't get to where they were supposed to be. Now I have no doubt that part of that was our fast play--Towson is not fast at all except for those three--and our defense, but it's true that those big girls could not move their feet quickly at all and didn't seem to know where they were supposed to be. Our girls got over, under, around, and through them with ease. What good is it to have a 6'6 player if she's slow and doesn't know where to go? And one of those girls is a SENIOR and should have known what to do by now....

RE: WBB vs Towson 2/9/2020
Random observation...

...Kamiah Smalls is now at 1,742 career points scored. We have 8 regular season games left. Let's assume 3 more in the CAAT. And then, realistically 1 game in the NCAAT (though hoping more than 1 of course), that gives her 12 games remaining in her career. With 258 points left to get to the 2,000 mark, she'll have to average scoring 21.5 ppg the rest of the way. It is do"able". I won't say likely, but possible.

If we go to the WNIT, which I hope not, and play a bunch of home games like recent past, this math of course changes significantly (read: becomes more realistic with more games).
