We should start a gun thread. I'm thinking of buying a new one. Or two.
I think about buying a new one every day. Luckily I only act on it about 3 or 4 times a year or I'd be flat broke. Unfortunately all of mine got wiped out in the great fire yesterday and all my ammo got swept out to sea 400 miles away from here, lol.
I just finished converting a closet in my office to a gun closet. I installed racks for all my long guns and holders for all my pistols. I installed a solid core door with extra long steel padlocked throw bolts at top and bottom and a long deadbolt in the middle. I replaced the jambs with 2x4's secured with 8 inch lag bolts spaced about 18 inches apart with 4 inch screws between them on the back and sides. It's going to take a chop saw to get in that baby.
All that and I've never had so much as even minor vandalism at my house in 15 years. I moved about 20 miles outside of Memphis in 2005 into one of the most crime free towns I've been in. But, I have a lot of money tied up in my weapons and one can never be too safe.
My sidearms are like Amex, I never leave home without at least one and I NEVER go into Memphis without an EDC, my current favorite being a Sig P320 9mm, an Emerson karombit knife, another folding knife attached to my other pocket, a Case pocket knife, a mini strobe flashlight and a small can of pepper spray.
I train, not just practice but train, to retain muscle memory at least once or twice a week. A friend of mine is a certified range master who conducts handgun classes and I've been through 3 different levels of training up to advanced tactical with him even though I've been around and shot guns my whole life. So many people who think that qualifies them to carry really need such classes to make them understand that they don't know what they don't know. I am constantly watching videos of training procedures and methods. Some might call me paranoid, I call it maintaining a warrior mentality in the off chance, or maybe not so off, that I need to act to protect myself, my family, or maybe even a stranger in a bad situation.
I refuse to succumb to a victim mentality nor will I ever be a victim without at least fighting back. I studied taekwondo at two different dojo's including Kang Rhee and ATA for 6 years with my son achieving a black belt recommended but never a full black belt as he decided he wanted to play football instead. That was long ago though and I'm old now and have forgotten most of it so I need equalizers.
I am also an avid deer hunter but it's becoming more and more difficult to use a climbing stand, my preferred hunting method.
I am fascinated by weaponry and the usage of it. So much so that I applied for a part time position at a gun range just yesterday.
Sorry for the lengthy response, lol.
