West: Kansas, Okla, Ok St, Texas, TTU

East: FSU, Miami, Clemson, VT, Louisville

Alternate the CCG between Jacksonville and Dallas.

The payouts per school for that grouping of schools has to be in the near Big Ten/SEC neighborhood.
Toss in the PAC-12 in some sort of rotating 2-conference structure and you have your P4 right there.

Is this anything goes?

I might have more radical later but for now how about Clemson and Kentucky switch? Clemson's a football school in a basketball conference.

Kentucky's a basketball school in a football conference.

You'd have South Carolina and Clemson in the same conference and Kentucky and Louisville in the same conference.

That's not a fair exchange at all. The SEC and Clemson* benefit while the ACC and Kentucky lose out. Plus, I doubt Kentucky wants to share a conference with Louisville.

* You could argue that Clemson would benefit financially but perhaps not competitively.

RE: Off Season Realignment Scenario
If we're looking at "anything goes"....

Ohio State and Michigan could orient either East or West. There's more people East of them than West of them. I think they'd get more money if they joined a Northeastern Conference.

Penn State
Maryland
Rutgers
Syracuse
Pitt
Boston College
Connecticut (because you need 2 New England teams)
West Virginia
Ohio State
Michigan

Right now the Northeast doesn't really root for CFB because the major local teams don't play each other and don't win much. But with annual rivalries and a conference that wins big nationally, they'd capture the attention of the Northeastern fans... and probably bring the richest contract in CFB. And split it only 10 ways.

SEC adds Texas, Oklahoma, Florida State, Clemson, Virginia Tech, and North Carolina State. Conf. Semifinals in Atlanta and Arlington. CCG in Sugar Bowl.

B1G adds Notre Dame (with special considerations), Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Kansas, USC, UCLA, Cal, Stanford, Oregon, Washington, Arizona and Colorado. Conf. Semifinals in Indianapolis and Las Vegas. CCG in Rose Bowl.

The B12 leftovers add the PAC 12 leftovers plus BYU and San Diego State; lose West Virginia.

The ACC leftovers invite West Virginia, Cincinnati, UCF, USF, and Memphis, UConn or Navy.

ACC CCG played in Charlotte or Florida. Big 12 CCG played in California or Texas.

ACC and Big 12 champs play each other in the Fiesta, Peach or Cotton Bowl.

G5 still gets automatic bid to one of the Fiesta, Peach, or Cotton Bowls.

Orange Bowl = SEC v B1G matchup.

The end result is a P4 with 70 schools. CFP involves 3 automatic berths for:
- SEC champ (Sugar Bowl winner)
- B1G champ (Rose Bowl winner)
- ACC v. Big 12 Bowl winner
- 1 wild card

CFP wild card and seeding by Selection Committee.

SEC (20 schools)
EAST: Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Kentucky
SOUTH: Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, LSU
WEST: Texas A&M, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri
ATLANTIC: Florida State, Clemson, Virginia Tech, North Carolina State, South Carolina

* 4+5 conf. schedule, with certain cross-division locks.

B1G (27 schools)
NORTH(7): Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, Michigan State, Indiana, Maryland, Rutgers
MIDWEST(7): Illinois, Purdue, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas
EAST(5): Notre Dame, Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Northwestern
PACIFIC(8): USC, UCLA, Cal, Stanford, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Colorado

* NORTH and MIDWEST schools play 6 +3 conf. schedule; PACIFIC schools play 7+2. EAST schools play 4+5.
** Notre Dame's 5 cross-division games involve USC, Stanford, plus 3, with a heavy helping of Michigan, Michigan State, and Purdue.
^ In Olympic sports, PACIFIC schools mostly play each other. Only one 2-game out-of-division road trip per season.

ACC (12 schools)
ATLANTIC: Wake, Louisville, Cincinnati, UCF, USF, Memphis/UConn/Navy
COASTAL: Miami, Pitt, West Virginia, Boston College, Syracuse, Duke

Big 12 (12 schools)
EAST: Texas Tech, TCU, Baylor, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Iowa State
WEST: Arizona State, Oregon State, Washington State, Utah, BYU, San Diego State

*ACC and Big 12 play 5+3 conf. schedule, plus at least 1 cross-conference OOC game.
