RE: JMU #20 in Softball Coaches Poll:
I'm fairly certain if anybody has something to contribute about JMU's ranking in the coaches poll, there will be others who will join into the conversation. There's another thread for Softball as well. Funny to see folks complain about others posting content in this thread, but don't provide anything themselves regarding the topic. Post a view about the topic and you'll likely get some response. Of course, you know a message board is working when you get a poster complaining about those who complain about other complainers. :>)

Well, I haven't seen JMU play yet, but I like the transfers in. it's a little chilly for me to sit in the stands just yet...I kind of like warmer weather. Softball season seems to be geared toward Florida teams! If a game happens on one of those warmer days, you just might find me there.

RE: JMU #20 in Softball Coaches Poll:
I think the ranking is a fair one. We had a lot coming back. Had our pitching loss been just an above average pitcher, we might have been ranked 12-15. But it was Megan Good, who often carried the team-and not just with her arm. The JMUs of the softball world just don't routinely reload that kind of a special talent.

I think the bats will be fine this year. I have concerns about our 2nd starting pitcher though. The Mississippi St transfer had struggles against SEC competition (and let's face it, that's who we want to compete with). The other transfer pitcher from the MEAC had somewhat ordinary #s, but in an inferior league. When transferring up in competition, I would have expected more stellar numbers. I'm hopeful that the coaches see something in them that they're convinced they can tweak for the better.

Would be good (perhaps obviously I admit) to win 3 of 4 down in Clearwater to open the season. Gotta hope CC starts off hot in the circle. A new catcher and gotta replace not just Good's arm but her bat as well - Roadcap was a decent hitter as well.

Love the Dukes' schedule and continued approach to play as many tough non-CAA games as reasonably possible. Still a lot of experience on this team. Leadership and chemistry shouldn't be an issue. Defense has been a bit of a concern the last 2-3 seasons. Hopefully, we see improvement in that area as well. Certainly, the door is wide open for any of these young'uns coming in to make a splash at a few positions.

Softball is maybe one sport where JMU is on an equal footing with P5 teams. There is a lot of parity in the sport generally, which is a good thing. The California teams still think they're all that and a truckload of chips, but there's a lot of good ball being played in a lot of other places. I was pretty impressed with some games I saw last year out of state schools and HBCUs in Texas.
