Because the team is getting paid to be there. Also, if we have athletes that need fans to motivate them to play, we don't have athletes.
I'm sorry - look at our football team - they and the coaches love the support they get. They will even tell you that. Go back to the year we won the caa in Richmond when Brady was coaching. One of the players ran back in the locker room and said they are here, they are here. We had 8,000 fans there that night. Ask Northeastern if the JMU crowd made a difference. Better yet, ask the players if the fans cheering give them energy!

Fans showed up in 2013 because they had something to cheer about. Apathetic coaching attitudes and snarky comments coming from players on the team tied for last place in the conference are why people aren't supporting this product.

This.
Lack of fan support did not happen overnight. This is decades in the making. If anything we have been far more supportive of this program than what most fan bases across the country would have tolerated.
In a way, I think we are at fault. We support the team no matter what for so long they have taken advantage of it. These last few years have been more than enough for me and so many others to put their foot down and say enough is enough.
They made this mess and now they are suffering consequences. Fan support is the lowest its ever been and its 100% deserved.
The coach isn't doing enough to appeal to the fan base. He isn't knocking down doors. The players aren't saying much and when they do they don't seem to care about the message they are conveying. That message is 'you are lucky we are on your team'. Are you kidding me??
And through it all we should just blindly support them? NO.

I agree. Powerful alumni and supporters put pressure on the administrations at other schools - such as what I assume happened with Trott being out at ECU. We've been too nice, supportive and, finally, increasingly apathetic about men's basketball when it used to be the heart of the sports program. Change won't happen without pressure on the administration. Maybe the embarrassing prospect of an empty new arena will finally bring change.

Unless this involves the commitment or ties of being a family member or friend, support is like respect - it's earned. I've paid JMU as a student and now as a parent. I don't owe JMU **** beyond that.

Not singling you out JH as I don't think that's the context you are referring to. It is however almost the exact statement I have heard from countless alums when asked to donate and a big part of why our alumni giving percentage (contributions) is so piss poor. That particular grouping of words just jumped out at me. Carry on

I was just saying I don't owe blind allegiance to a terrible program that the administration has refused to make a priority until this new arena came along. They don't deserve that just because I'm an alum and parent. That's taking advantage of a relationship.
I still give to JMU, but rather than trusting in the university with an unrestricted gift, I restrict my giving to programs I want to support. That way I know it ain't supporting Bourne or men's basketball.

Don't blame you a bit. An entire generation hasn't experienced consistent quality basketball at JMU. The struggle is real.

RE: JMU vs W&M hoops
When the admin doesn't want to make a significant investment in a MBB coach, how can they blame fans for choosing not to make a similar investment?
Garbage in, garbage out.
If they finally decided to invest in a head coach with experience and a history of winning, then I think they have every right to ask fans to do their part to support the program.

Surprised it's as close as it is with The Tribe shooting 66% (7 of 11 from 3 point range) and our Dukes shooting 30%. Plus we're 6 for 8 from the FT line.

I guess with this team, 18 points is considered close. When you are shooting 26% it should be worse.

Knight and Van Vliet are huge, roster says VV is taller but I think with the 'fro' Knight has him.

With UNCW off tonight, the Dukes will wake up tomorrow morning tied for dead last in the CAA. The basement is smelly.

It's a close game because of our FT shooting...… Lou has them turning the corner.

Haven't won at Kaplan since 2013. The 99th game in the series, JMU has the edge 50-49 but the Tribe has won 12 of the last 14 games against the Dukes.

If we had hired Dane Fischer last year, what would the reaction have been?

Simply beyond embarrassing... under Lefty, it was the opposite or more in our favor.

We would be 0-8 in the conference this season if UNCW had fired their coach a couple weeks earlier.

Shot 38% from 3 point line and 85% from FT line. That’s as good as this team can/will shoot and still lost by 13.

So I guess we should be happy that we only lost by 13 to a rival.
Rowe should do JMU a favor and resign.
