That's a real shame. Our RB corps was great last season.

That's a hit to our recruitment.

Tribe fans had better prepare for assistants to leave the second they get a "better" offer. The days of long-term coaches is probably in the rearview.

Recruiting is a valuable commodity in college sports. Barthel has proven exceptional at it and is completely tapped in to the NJ/NY area. We know we don't pay our assistants well compared to FBS programs. If there is the opportunity to advance his career, why wouldn't he? We know it's going to be a short time until Marion follows him out the door.

Super guy that the guys seemed to really like. Hate to see him go but glad he was here for a year. Really good talent at RB on the roster and someone is going to be really lucky to call themselves the Tribe’s RB coach next year.

I guess it's possible, but I don't see it. His greatest value to a program is his recruiting. Not something needed in the NFL.

Nothing new here...assistant coaches have always been coming and going. Not just from our level, but Power Five levels too.

They always get replaced, too. It's the nature of the professiion.

This is a simple and defensive point of view defending the powers that be, that, in my opinion, is incorrect.

I follow Purdue football and basketball closely. Success and staff stability go hand in hand at the Power Five level, particularly at the non “blue blood” level.

So, yes, assistant coaches come and go ... it’s hard to maintain/achieve success when that occurs at the non “blue bloods”, and we are a non “blue blood”.

So, if Mike’s staff turns over at a high rate, success will be harder to come by, IMO.

William and Mary’s assistant coaches don’t get paid much. The current staff includes some former NFL players so maybe money isn’t a big deal for them, but if you are young and want to get paid, you have to leave. That’s why the Laycock family tree is so successful .... they all left for bigger programs. It’s nice to think we can retain assistant coaches, but it’s really a pipe dream unless the coach is independently wealthy or a spouse makes money.

Looks like he is evaluating college talent and not high school kids. Panthers it is. Good luck coach.

That one year at Temple under Rhule proves beneficial. Good luck to him!

I’d be curious to see how they fill the two positions that are open at this time. Signing day, visit weekends, spring ball all happening or soon to happen. I wonder how long it will take them to fill. Experienced coaches are finding jobs each day.

Barthel recruited a lot of kids considering W&M. Recruitment will take a hit, for sure. A bunch of coaches can work with RBs. Heck, Mangas coaches RBs for us only a couple years removed from his playing days.

Agreed. Recruiting is where his loss will be felt the most. The only good thing is, he isn't trying to steer those kids towards another school.

Some on here may be aware but for those who aren't, Joe Person is a former WM Tight End from 1988-1992 seasons.
