RE: WBB vs Southern Miss
Rice wins 75 - 64.

Mulkey: 29 points (12-14 FG), 12 boards, 2 assists, 3 blocks
Smith: 21 points (9-11 FG), 5 boards, 6 assists, 4 steals, 8 TOs

Really good win against one of the better teams in the conference, and without our best player.

It's clear the impact that Erica's presence on the court has on Schwartz' game. With Erica the focus of the opposing defense, Schwartz has much more space to do her thing. She's not yet adept at creating her own shot, but that's expected to improve. What's puzzling is her lack of rebounds the past two games.

Mulkey best game this year. She seem very motivated today. Hopefully, a turning point for her this year. Great defense by the Lady Owls. S. Miss is the most athletic team we faced in Conf USA to date.

USM shot 45% from the field-- I think A&M and OSU were the only other teams to shoot over 40% against us.

Our RPI is now 101, Middle Tenn is 53, and Old Dom is 40. Loosing to SMU destroyed our RPI rating.

If you are using RealTimeRPI, it's a little off. For some reason it is including a win over Charlotte.

The SMU debacle (22 offensive rebounds given up), couple with our inability to offset it with the win against the Aggies, pretty much eliminated any chance of our getting an at large bid. You didn't mention UTEP above-- what's their RPI? They will be a really tough road test for us on Thursday. We really need Erica to be back and at close to full strength, and for Nancy to continue her strong play of the last two games (which should earn her conference POW honors).

ODU is a 3-point scoring machine-- they have nearly 3 times the number of 3s made than any other CUSA school.

ODU is 5th in the conference in 3-pointers made. If you're looking at just conference games, they're even lower in 3-pointers made.

Wow. Just rechecked-- not sure what I was looking at this morning. My bad.

UTEP is 2nd in the conference in scoring offense (we're 10th) and 3rd (just behind us) in scoring defense. Digging a bit further, they currently have an abysmal SoS ranking of #312 and, accordingly, an RPI of #234, despite their 11-6 record. Realtime RPI is predicting UTEP to beat us at home 63 - 62. We've got an RPI of #102 and an SOS of #148.

Very possible ODU and/or UTEP can beat us on their court but Mulkey was a different player against Southern Miss. We will definitely need Erica to beat them.
