"Send the Yellow Jackets to a watery grave."
So goes the line in the Alabama fight song.
WSFA out of Montgomery reports:
Bama and GT have scheduled a series although it's about 10 years out.
A couple of notes about this:
1. It's becoming more and more common for SEC and ACC schools to schedule each other out of conference. There's history to this match-up, but there are plenty of others who have rarely ever met. I think ESPN is pulling the strings on that to a significant degree. They own both leagues and automatically own the content every time the two schedule a game against each other.
2. Looking at Alabama's future schedules, and the link above contains the P5 games that Bama has coming up in the next 12 years or so, I think 10 Power games is about to become a reality pretty soon.
We've got 10 scheduled in 2025 and 2026. The GT series fills a gap where no P5 had been(2030 and 2031). So I think that's the direction we're moving. Hoping to see it sooner than later, but it will depend.
In 2024, we're going to need someone who can provide a home game as we're on the road to Wisconsin. Problem is, we also need a home game in 2023 because that's the year we're going to South Florida. We're actually playing USF in both of those seasons and that's not a bad opponent at all even though we don't technically get credit for a P5 in that match-up.
We've got Texas in 2022 and 2023 so it may be possible to line up another P5 for a 2 year stretch in there somewhere, but not sure.
