Temple played well and WSU laid a big fat greasy turd on the court.

RE: Temple shocker tonite
WSU looked very lethargic. Maybe that do to WSU playing a double-overtime game against UConn on Sunday. One reason I suspect WSU shot but 38 percent on 2’s, and made but 3-three’s the entire game. Yet, Temple did play well defensively holding WSU to just 55-points.

Temple has come up short in it’s previous three conference games by Mckie running Temple’s half court offense thru both Rose and NPL, two inept ball handlers and poor outside shooters. It’s insane for Rose to take Temple’s most shots in conference play, and shoot just 40 percent on 2’s, and 26 percent on 3’s. But that’s pale in comparison to NPL taking Temple’s second most shots, and shooting but 34 percent on 2’s, and 18 percent on 3’s. If McKie moved away from them offensively, Temple would be an excellent team as it’s defense one of the nation’s best. Injuries have been a non-factor.

As such, it was no surprise that Temple started off as they do in many games scoring around 30-points. In WSU game, Temple scored but 26-points in the first-half.

McKie has gotten so little from this squad offensively mainly because he’s relied on Rose and NPL’s crappy scoring. They had one of their typical performances against WSU as they shot 34 percent (8-23) from the field.

NPL and Rose also combined for 9 of Temple’s 20 turnovers.

Temple did manage to score 65 points overall, as Temple scored 39-points in the second half.

One needs to see how Temple performs in it’s next two games against SMU on the road, and UCinn at home. No reason to predict next season if this year is not straightened out.

Temple ... has a bright future.

WSU should return 12 of 13 Scholarship players next year (someone will likely transfer though) and 10 of those 13 should be there the year after that. So WSU's future looks great too.

It certainly does, and so does AAC basketball's future, with three very strong programs - WSU, UH, & Memphis - and contenders such as Cincy, Temple, and SMU. Tulsa and Tulane may still have post-season potential. UCF and USF have played very well at times. The lower tier of AAC teams have improved. All but one AAC team currently has a NET ranking of #135 or better.

AAC basketball, top to bottom, has improved enough that it will remain strong as an 11-team conference next season. If the departure of UConn had taken place 3 years ago, that might not have been the case.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With regard to Wichita State's program, it's great to see them overachieving the way they have this season, given the way that they had to reload after losing some key players. The way they finished last season, with a strong run in and into the NIT was also very impressive.

This may be their best team, or one of their best teams, since their last Final Four trip. From a long-term perspective, it looks like the Shockers' program under this HC is getting their second wind.

Miggy, bless your soul, but Temple doesn’t win against Wichita without Rose’s offensive and defensive contributions. He may not be an NBA player but he is absolutely not the detriment you say he is. It is good to see Scott coming along.

This Hot then Cold deal isn't going to cut it, we need to be prepared for games if we want to stay relevant.

Temple isn't getting anywhere near the kind of production they need out of two starters - - JP Moorman and Alani Moore.

In order for them to get anywhere, their coach will have to cut their playing time.

Temple beat WSU with their defense as WSU only scored 53-points. WSU shooting just 3-21 on three’s was a big factor. No one’s claiming Rose was responsible WSU’s poor three-point shooting.

Temple’s offense rarely wins games. Temple scored just 65-points against WSU shows that.

Rose shot just 6-15 from the field. I suspect that if other Temple players had taken those 15 shots, and shot more three’s, Temple may well have scored more points.

Do think that both Perry and Hamilton should play more than Moorman, but feel strongly Alani Moore should be used differently, so he shoots more, not less, and that Temple’s offense be run thru him, not Rose, who’s killing Temple with his excessive turnovers in Temple’s last four games.

Like to see Alani, penetrate and kick ball out to wing or corner for assist, or stop and shoot, rather than HC McKie just having pass the ball from side to side as he does.

Given that Temple has not matched pre-season expectations, and has played poorly in conference play, it’s a waste of time to say how Temple will play next season. Especially since virtually each returning player from last season has seen his shooting percentage substantially decline this season.

We need to see next year’s roster and new recruits play before knowing the effect of Temple losing Rose, and Alani Moore. Losing D.Moore a non-factor given how little plays.

I won’t be disappointed to see Rose depart given how poorly he has played so far this season.

Right now-JP Moorman. Should pitch for the Philly. Has devastating fast-ball. Needs a change-up.

Yea, I'm optimistic for next year, but to be fair, I always am. Who knows. We return a ton, McKie will be more experienced and bringing in more of his own recruits. Strickland will be eligible, Dunn will hopefully be healthy, and Jahlil White is starting to look like he might be an immediate impact player. Josh Pierre-Louis has an incredible ceiling. We've seen some of the stuff that he's capable of. This program is going to have unrivaled guard depth, and Jake Forrester and Arashma Parks look like they're going to be very capable AAC bigs (when was the last time Temple had those?).

So, bright future? Hopefully, but every fan of every school overestimates their team's potential ceiling. Who knows. I do know I'll be willing to throw Aaron McKie a parade if he lands Stevie Mitchell and Lynn Greer.

Also, how did this turn into a pissing contest with Wichita fans? I love that program and would've been seriously pulling for them to win the title if they were 17-1 right now and felt like a serious contender. Not sure why they got bitter. Go Shocks all but once or twice a year.

Glad some Owls fans are optimistic about the team's personnel. I'm not quite as sanguine about their capabilities.

I'm much more optimistic about Coach McKie's potential going forward, given that he's had the Owls in the top 100 all season to date, despite being in his first year, ever, as a Head Coach. He's still got a ways to go through his learning curve, but having a winning record in his first season in the #7 conference is pretty impressive.

Concerns about personnel:

The team loses one of its two "A" quality players (the top scorer on the team, by far), its starting PG, and its only true Center.

Who returns?

One "A" quality player (NPL), one rapidly improving "A-" quality player (Forrester) and a bunch of inconsistent B and B/B+ quality players.

There are several returning players who have been inconsistent or significant underachievers: (1) Moorman, (2) Hamilton, & (3) Scott.

New players (recruits, transfers, injured players):

1) Tai Strickland (6'2" RS Sophomore, PG) is a classic half-court type 6'2" PG who may not have sufficient quickness, height, athleticism, or scoring potential to be a difference maker.

2) Damian Dunn (6'5" Sophomore CG/SG) impressed the coaching staff during preseason, but had a severe foot injury that is still sore and has not healed as quickly as expected. He may not get much playing time this season and if not, may have to shake off some rust after a year with little playing experience. Another concern is that he isn't a proven perimeter shooter. Will have to compete for playing time next season.

3) Jahlil White (6'5"Freshman CG/SG/Wing) plays with high energy, athleticism, and determination and has good driving skills, but isn't a high % perimeter shooter.

4) Quincy Ademokoya (6'5" Freshman SF/Wing) has a nice perimeter shot and is a capable penetrator. He may be able to partially compensate for the loss of Quinton Rose, but will have to compete for playing time as a newcomer to the team.

5) With only two of three slots being filled during the fall recruiting period, Coach McKie intends to sign a new recruit during the late signing period, a JUCO, or a transfer who may or may not be eligible in 2020-21.

2020-21 Roster:

PG: Josh Pierre-Louis (6'3" Soph.) and Tai Strickland (6'2" RS Soph.)

SG/CG: Nate Pierre-Louis (6'4" Sr.), Monty Scott (6'5" Sr.), Damian Dunn (6'5" Soph.), Jahlil White (6'5" Fr.)

Wing: DeVondre Perry (6'7" Sr. F),* Quincy Ademokoya (6'5" Fr. SF), Damian Dunn (6'5" Soph. G), Jahlil White (6'5" Fr. G/W)

PF (4 position): JP Moorman (6'7" Sr.), DeVondre Perry (6'7" Sr.)*

PF (5 position): Jake Forrester (6'9" Jr.), Justyn Hamilton (6'10" Sr.), Arashma Parks (6'9" Soph.)

Although NPL is a fine overall player, and Jake Forrester is becoming a key contributor, but there don't appear to be any other potential top scorers or all-conference quality players on the team.

Perry, Parks, JPL, Hamilton, and Scott have had occasional flashes, but none has demonstrate the ability to play 25-30 effective mpg on a regular basis. Perry has performed well in OOC games the past two seasons, but has been less effective in conference play. Parks was a very pleasant surprise in limited OOC action to date, and may develop into a well-rounded low post player, but has struggled at times with shoulder injuries. JPL hasn't yet shown the full potential that his brother NPL demonstrated in his freshman season. Hamilton and Scott have had their playing time cut back this season due to inconsistent performances.

JP Moorman (current starter, 27 mpg) has been one of the most disappointing players on the team this season. His productivity, scoring, and FG% have dropped off gradually since his promising freshman season, and has declined further during conference play.

.
*Perry is currently a backup PF and has occasionally played as a backup Wing.

New Q and Jahlil White are both taller than you listed them, and Jake isn't 6'9. Jahlil can shoot too, but New Q is a better shooter.
