It was actually a 100/0. He never had the intention of coming back unfortunately. His dad even made it crystal clear. The timing now gets him more exposure in that college free agency. He wanted to wait to see what teams will need a QB.

I don't think that's true. I think the decision was just finally made yesterday.

Yes, Dad said he was transferring back in September, but at the time D'Eriq said in no uncertain terms that he was staying.

D'Eriq could have entered the portal when he graduated a month ago. There was no reason to wait a month.

D'Eriq was participating in team activities over the weekend, and had signed scholarship paperwork with UH for the semester.

I think Pesek is right. Watching Joe Burrow in the national championship game put stars in his eyes and he decided last night to transfer. It happened in the 4th quarter last night.

Bollocks.

King was gone from the moment he tapped out. The last three months has been nothing more than a kid keeping his options open.

But, pesik assured me that King was coming back and this was all a grand master plan by Holgo.

If he was gone, why participate in team activities while trying to graduate? Why wait until the first day of class to enter the transfer portal? Why not enter transfer portal the day after graduation?

Doesn't make sense.

Lots of things never make sense on the surface. Last year, RJ Hampton was supposedly choosing between Kansas, Memphis and two others. He posted a video about the 4 schools online the night before he announced.

Then the next morning, he announced he was going pro in New Zealand. And that he had signed a contract a month earlier.

Not in any scenario do I believe King changed his mind during the 4th quarter last night. Hell, his father said that was what he was going to do last September.

Why he waited is anybody's guess. He certainly got more pub by doing it this way.

That original thread when the Skullet dropped his bit of genius on sitting the preseason All AAC QB is pure comedy gold.

The weirdest thing to me is how adamant a few posters here were for months that this was a brilliant strategic move by DH, when in fact, it was King quitting, and DH piecing together a narrative that eventually blew up in his face, and now those same posters have a completely different explanation of how it all unfolded, and why.

"Keeping his options open" didn't clear that up for you?

This is starting to feel like an early onset of Tuberville. Uh oh.

It is becoming clear that the idea was King's, not CDH's. It has been reported that DK met with AD Chris Pezman prior to the Tulane game and informed him that he (King) would shut it down for the year if we lost.

Yeah, the list of feel good stories when a coach voluntarily moves from a P5 to a non-P5 isn’t a very long read.

Honestly it was a good decision for him...

Extremely selfish...But likely best for his future to shut it down after starting 1-3. He wasn't going to get any publicity on a middling AAC team.

But it was no more selfish than Holgerson following that up with encouraging others to follow suit.

The QB met with the AD behind the coach's back? Damn did Dana lose his team fast...

College sports fans are like political supporters. They will swallow the company line and present a unified front hitting the talking points no matter how dumb a decision appears to the rest of the world.

He certainly seems to have lost DK, but given the way most of our kids played their tails off I'm not sure I would agree.

and then erry Memphis fan being like "You shut your dirty whore mouth"

and then, well....you know.

USFFan

Is there ever a great 36 hours in Houston? I kid!

Kings departure is not surprising, though it is disappointing. Temple’s Quincy Roche, American Defensive POY, is in the portal also as a grad transfer. Story is he wants to play against tougher competition before entering the draft. IMO, if that’s the reason, it makes little sense; Temple and the American send many players to the NFL. Additionally, he is leaving the coaching staff that developed him into a POY. I see the King situation in a similar way; most QB transfers are backups looking for PT, not starters. And Houston has a great record historically with QBs, honestly not many places that will offer more opportunity.
