lol "nothing to see here" my ass. Your fans were touting this tanking strategy as some genius plan and it totally backfired like everyone knew it would but the UH fans.

the tanking strategy was good because he would come back to stacked team..the stack part is still there..

up until 20 mins ago i thought this off-season was going too perfectly..

our star WR declines the draft
picked up all our transfer targets
a starter 5th year senior oline gets a 6th year medical red-shirt
no key player entered the portal (till king)

for what its worth, utah state qb jordan love had houston a top 3 finalist for weeks now.. i wanted no part of that becuase i wanted king to stay...but love aint no slouch

love had an elite sophomore season, and was expected to be 1st round pick this year...had a poor junior season (overall team was poor)...so its not like we have no options

You can spin away but to say this isn't devastating to UH access bowl hopes for next season is a flat out lie.

Not sure where this take is coming from. Ive basically said from the start that I didnt think this was some big plan that Dana hatched. I think the massive red shirt move was Dana simply trying to make the best of the disaster situation King created.

Dana got 35 guys red shirted this year that will be bigger and stronger next year. He has a QB with some experience. He has 6-7 transfer starters on defense that sat out this year. The team will be better going forward due to how the red shirt program was handled this year.

Here is what we know now that we were not sure of before----King flat out quit on his team. Thats disappointing.

Coogfans is reporting that King asked to be sat prior to the Tulane game...if true Dana let him train and hang out with your team for the rest of the season knowing he was leaving. Why would you keep a cancer like that around

in the post you responded to, i said i personally preferred king ..becuase i like kings legs and for loyalty reasons..and hoping up being a landing spot for love would fade away

but love his sophmore year had a 32tds 6int..on a 11-2 team..while playing on a recruiting calibur team of utah state..and consider to be 1st round pick going into his junior season

if we land love (crossing fingers)..we'll still be good shape..besides king all the other pieces are still there..
the 8 touted transfers, the star players from the previous season returning (including 2x 1st team all conference wr stevenson), and landed 4 transfers so far (including a starting safety from WVU)

Love entered the draft. This whole king situation was a cluster. I am glad he is gone. He is a bad fit for a true passing attack . Good luck wherever he goes. Will not miss him.

when king was given the 3rd best odds to win the Heisman but on the assumption that he transferred..while watching a joe burrow win a Heisman as a transfer (and likely championship), while every coach from every major program follows you on social

i was talking to my friend the other day that the temptation to leave has to be real..

Im hearing something slighty different---but almost as bad. The only reason I can think of for letting him hand around is that the King family obviously gave Dana reason to believe he might return---otherwise he'd have thrown the kid under the bus for quitting. Ive also seen a tweet that indicated his mother has cancer---so maybe Dana was just being decent knowing the kid might be kinda messed up. Who knows?

Either way, we have a decent starter in Tune. We have a very talented freshman coming in (enrolling early for spring). My guess is Dana will be looking for an experience transfer QB in the portal to push Tune in camp and to serve as backup if he cant win the starting job.

The truth is---I actually feel better knowing for sure that Dana didnt come up with this plan out of the blue.

It wasnt Dana's idea. The story is leaking out everywhere now. It's disappointing---but looking forward---Tune may very well have been the better fit for Dana's system anyway. Hopefully everyone ends up better off when the dust settles.

At least Rice will be able to face King as a member of the LSU Tigers next year instead of with the Coogs.
