Seahawks Making Change In Men's Basketball

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW Head Men's Basketball Coach C.B. McGrath has been relieved of his duties, effective immediately, Director of Athletics Jimmy Bass announced late Monday.

McGrath joined the program in April of 2017 and has directed the Seahawks to a 26-58 overall record in three years with the team. UNCW stands 5-14 overall and 0-6 in the Colonial Athletic Association entering Thursday's conference matchup vs. Hofstra.

"We appreciate C.B.'s hard work with our program and student-athletes over the last two and half years and wish him well in the future," said Bass.

Assistant Coach Rob Burke has been named interim head coach. A national search for McGrath's replacement will begin immediately.

According to Wikipedia, you didn't start Men's Basketball until 1976. Your only two coaching changes during seasons were after losing at Hofstra on January 27, 2010 and before hosting Hofstra in 3 days. I'm rooting for you in all your games not against Hofstra.

Yep. Benny Moss was the first.

I like this move. Plenty of time for Jimmy to find the right guy and get this right.

CB was a nice guy and I wish him the best. Hope he uses it as a learning tool and lands on his feet and finds success.

RE: C.B. McGrath fired: Burke to serve as Interim Coach
My way too early # 1 choice: LeVelle Moton, NC Central.

189-135 record. 4 Conference Titles and 1 NIT appearance. I don't know if we're a big enough jump for him, though.

I wanted Moton after Keatts left. And of course still do.

If Pasternack is still a possibility, he's 53-28 at UCSB.

I imagine that ship has sailed, however.

RE: C.B. McGrath fired: Burke to serve as Interim Coach
My position has not changed. I want a coach who comes from a tried and true defensive system. UVA, Wisconsin or Texas, VCU, WVU.

WVU - From Greenville NC - https://wvusports.com/sports/mens-basket...arrison/49

VCU - https://www.vcuathletics.com/information...d?view=bio

UVA - https://virginiasports.com/sports/mens-b...rberg/2665

Evanj we had basketball when I started uncw in 1971. 1976 might be the year we went division 1 . We also had a team in the 60's . Bill Brooks was the coach of basketball and baseball. Mel Gibson became coach of basketball in 2971.

Interesting that they had the Monday with McGrath show at BWW this afternoon and then fired him a couple hours later.

It is Monday. I'm guessing a blowout loss to the only other winless team in the CAA prompted some meetings this morning. Letting him go by this evening was about as fast as could be expected on the first workday of the week. I'd imagine there were mostly financial discussions along with who would best fit as interim.

I like Shaver, but please not another UNC guy. Also need a more defensive system coach as 82Hawk stated above.

Moton is probably out of our league but it can't hurt asking.

Yeah I figured there were financial issues to work out, it still just seems odd to have a coach’s show then fire him later. McGrath probably thought he was safe since he wasn’t called to Bass’s office this morning.

Yes. By all accounts a good and decent man- just was a bad fit for UNCW. Hopefully he can move to a situation that works well for him, and the next chapter can work well for UNCW.

Harrison's resume looks good. But I'm hesitant knowing he is associated with Bob Thuggins.
