Yes, but the officials damn near stole it from us because Funderburk (leading scorer for State) touched a UVa players taped up thumb. The UVa player hit Funderburk and the officials gave out a double technical and then gave Funderburk his fifth foul a few seconds later.

The moral of the story is don't touch a tender boys thumb in Charlottesville or else.

The officiating in college basketball has as much to do with outcomes as the players. Sickening.

As for State, most years they lose this game. Maybe this year's team is a little different. It would be nice to have the full roster. We have now played 8 conference games and had everyone available in just 2 of them. Maybe it will pay off later?

Well the important thing is that refs cheated and you still won. Gotta wonder what is UVA’s problem, it’s not like they are the only team that lost a bunch of talent.

Cuse making a case for #4. Hosting Duke will tell a lot. Beat a tough ND team tonight in South Bend. Lucky to escape with ND bombing 3's all night long.

VT does not seem to want it, in OT vs UNC.

VT can breath a sigh of relief. Just squeeked by a reeling team.

We needed that to stay in contention for the NCAA tourney. A quad 3 loss to UNC would have taken us out at this time.

UNC's size was always going to be problematic for this VT team. We only play one guy taller than 6'7" and he's a true freshman that plays around 10 minutes a game.

Black & Pierce shot right over the top of the smaller guys guarding them on the perimeter, and Brooks manhandled whoever tried to guard him inside.

This VT team has a lot of heart. 6 guys are key pieces who had never played a minute of college basketball before the season started. Mike Young is doing a tremendous job in his first year in Blacksburg.

This year's Hokies MBB team highlights the fact that you CAN win - a lot - in college basketball without a big man - as long as you can shoot threes. Few college teams are equipped to take advantage of height.

If I had to rank the teams now:
1 FSU
2 UofL
3 Duke
4 NCSU
5 VT
6 SU
7 Pitt
8 ND

This is going to sound bad, but my upset pick is ND beating FSU Saturday. Also I think GT could possibly beat NCSU.

I was there in those years too. That metro conference had some solid basketball. I was watching the game on TV when we won the conference tournament, however. Charlie Ward with the game winner.

I remember a big brawl between U of L and Florida State one year. Had to be '85, '86, '87, or '88, because I remember Herb Crook being involved ... (went to Bing to find this ... and did ... here's a clip to YouTube highlighting the fight, and the crazy Cards comeback win at the buzzer .. 1985 season .. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_UoBw1OLqg )

Also I wanna say it was '89, where the Cards HAD to win the Metro Tourney to make the big dance ... they went on a run, upsetting people on the way to the title game, where the Cards sprinted out to a 20 point lead by half, before running out of gas, and losing at the end ... I wanna say that was Florida State who won it. But it was held in Roanoke, and there's a famous Cards Tee Shirt with "Rally in the Valley" as the rallying cry.

I think SU now slides into that #4 spot. Something that seemed impossible just 3 weeks ago after losing a close game to ND. Speaking of, ND nearly upset my Noles.
