NDSU gets you into Minneapolis/Minnesota market

I’m shocked the BIG hasn’t sent you an invite yet. The lowly MAC isn’t worthy. 01-ncaabbs

RE: Anyone Going to Watch NDSU vs JMU Today?
Most JMU fans are craving the jump up to FBS but nobody wants any part of the current MAC tv schedule that forces all them midweek games. They’d only see the MAC as a stepping stone to another FBS conference anyway. This thread has over 5 million views, yes 5 million...

Why doesn't the MWC board get bombarded with these posts?

Right!? I've said it once, and I'll say it again.... No on NDSU, and no on JMU...These schools bring nothing, and their football teams will not be great forever..... If you want to bring someone in, bring someone like Indiana State, or Illinois State, or even UMass... These schools bring in regional rivalries for NIU, BSU and Buffalo, and stay within the conference footprint...These NDSU/JMU trolls need to disappear. NOT INTERESTED

If we added anybody it should be somebody that doesn't further drag down the conference. So no to ISU, ISU, or UMass.

RE: Anyone Going to Watch NDSU vs JMU Today?
I'm personally against expanding period... Every school out there would just be an extra mouth to feed as any additional revenue they would bring would be more than offset by the fact we'd have to split revenue 13 or 14 ways instead of 12. The only scenario that I'd support expanding is if the Big 12 got raided to the point that it needed to be dissolved and a school like Iowa State was left needing a place to go.

RE: Anyone Going to Watch NDSU vs JMU Today?
There's a lot of schools I can think of joining the MAC. NDSU isn't one of them. North Dakota St doesn't fit our footprint. If you guys want a FBS conference, ask the AAC or start the long-rumored Big North conference.

If there were some 'partner' schools in Minnesota that would join, then I think we could talk some.

I remember one of the CAA teams talking about how their conference was equal to the MAC. And then Toledo curb stomped them.

The funniest part of that post was he mentioned NDSU would get the MAC into the Minneapolis/Minnesota market.

They have a market? I though Minnesota was just snow, polar bears....and a mall.

Not in football, which is in a yearly rebuild mode. This current plan is more long term and will be several years before we see the light. Our basketball fans are myopic and probable thought that. Basketball is in a rebuild mode. Two starting freshman are out for the year, Weeks and Bugs III and the other freshman seemed to be improving.

While I feel the MAC is a good fit, does not matter. The two sides seem amicable with simply scheduling each other, which is good.

Cheers!

Indiana State doesn’t even have a top 200 budget. They operate on an OVC level. Suggesting them is a straight-up “I don’t what the hell I’m talking about.”

RE: Anyone Going to Watch NDSU vs JMU Today?
I say addition by subtraction... There are a couple of MAC schools that would probably be better served at the FCS level...
If anyone was added beyond a solid core of 8-10 MAC programs - ( institutions that are serious about their athletics), I would try and get Marshall, and Temple back in, with possibly Army/Navy football only...

Harrisonburg to Athens is a 5 hour drive. 5.5 or 6 hours to Akron/Kent. You know, the typical Eastern edge of MAC territory.

Mansfield, CT is 11 hours to Athens and 9 hours to Akron/Kent. The mileage from Amherst is about the same.

Hell, Buffalo is way out of our footprint and they're still 6+ hours away from UConn/UMass.

This is what I've been saying, too, provided Marshall also returns to the MAC. This would provide a MAC East footprint where 5 of 7 schools are within easy driving distance, the outliers being Miami and Buffalo.

The MAC has long preferred having two 7-team divisions. This would provide an 8-game conference football slate that includes just two cross divisional games and an 18-game conference basketball schedule that would include 12 division games (six each home and away) and six crossover games, three each home and away.

The divisions would look like this:

MAC East
1) Buffalo
2) James Madison
3) Marshall
4) Ohio
5) Akron
6) Kent State
7) Miami

MAC West
1) BGSU
2) Toledo
3) CMU
4) EMU
5) WMU
6) Ball State
7) NIU

FIRE UP CHIPS! :)
