its hard to sell a huge steaming pile of crap.

You would have a point if it wasn't for the fact that at the time the TV deal was negotiated CUSA was ahead of the AAC in BCS rankings. Judy has made this conference into a steaming pile of crap not the other way around.

Just watch her interview where she talks about the SEC. Only time I've seen signs of life in her.

San Diego is #7 in the nation and could wipe the floor with any school from the AAC.

UNLV, UNM, Nevada, Utah State all very strong basketball following.

Fresno State consistently has very good baseball and very large following.

If anything the MWC 3rd tier content in other sports would rival the AAC especially now that the most valuable brand UConn is gone

UConn athletics lost 42 million dollars in 2019...then they have to pay us 17 million just to leave.

if UConn was a business, it would be shut down by now.

they aren't happy in the MWC and the AAC offers them not only better money but better exposure/start times

https://gazette.com/sports/air-force-coa...fb6ce.html

I read some incoherent ramblings from a head coach in that article but nothing from the Air Force administration. He was bitching about having to go to Hawaii.

Yep, whats funny is they take that and run with AF moving to the AAC. It really is comical.

Now that the MWC tv deal is done, we know that no MWC team is moving to the AAC for a 12 year deal and no third tier rights

Its not like the MW 3rd tier rights are valuable. They have those rights currently. Apparently, they have so few takers that they have been bundling them together and using the MW Digital network (about 1000 events a year) as a home for that content. Guess who pays the production costs for those broadcasts? Guess who pays to build and maintain that streaming platform? For the G5, with a few exceptions, the third tier stuff is just about extra exposure at the minimum price---there is not generally any kind of financial windfall to be had.

That said, I do think that the new deal probably closes the financial/exposure gap enough that its fairly unlikely any MW school moves to the AAC for financial reasons. If they move, it would be because they of other institutional reasons (things like a preference to be more eastward leaning or perhaps AF wanting to share a conference with Navy). While that type of thing is "possible", I tend to think the chances of those types of motivations being strong enough to prompt a MW team to move to the AAC is very unlikely.

we'll do what ESPN tells us so it wouldn't be the AAC contacting AF. It would be ESPN essentially negotiating for us offering them better exposure, start times, potential bowls, etc.

Fixed it for you. The Sunbelt is very happy with what it has. At least people knew where to watch us. Unlike C-USA with the deal with Bein sports...

On top of that ESPN has been losing customers everyday since 2013 and cord cutting is at a all-time and accelerating every minute. ESPN idea was to push costs to the schools and have their fans pay extra to watch their schools game. No one is watching these games on ESPN+ except fans of these colleges.

Now a combo deal with NFL, Fox, CBS, Stadium/facebook. Another deal with more games from NFL network would be great for CUSA

No, no, NO to Stadium/Facebook, or anything else Facebook. That is FAR worse than getting it on ESPN+ which is bad enough on its own. Don't go any lower than ESPN+ PLEASE. Anything/FACEBOOK is miles and miles lower.

Apparently you don't have children!!! And debt to deal with on top of that!!!

RE: MWC Finalizes Media Rights Deal with CBS Sports, FOX
All this angst about C-USA's leadership and the dissatisfaction over media rights deals makes me believe that any realignment between C-USA schools, Sun Belt schools, and others such as Liberty and NMSU, is going to be initiated by C-USA schools. Some group of schools (I predict mostly CUSA eastern schools) are going to decide enough is enough and try to start a new conference of their own.

You just don't see the same frustrations on the Sun Belt side of things. The SBC media deal isn't perfect (and I can say App State would rather play some C-USA schools like Marshall and Charlotte than certain western SBC schools), but people aren't ready to blow the league up and fire the commissioner. The league is doing as well as a football conference as it ever has, on the field and in the bank.

If the leaders of enough schools in C-USA are as frustrated as people on this board are, look for some dramatic changes to come out of the league in the next few years.

The flaw in your opinion is that you assume those unhappy programs have the funds to build a new conference from scratch. The majority of the unhappy eastern programs are cash strapped. They aren't going anywhere.

Don't look now, but the MWC may implode. BSU suing MWC over new TV deal. MWC broke their contract with BSU. Whole TV deal about to go up in smoke.

For those that want to see some off-season drama this is exactly what you are hoping for to stoke realignment talk.

Honestly, this was an expected move by Boise after Thompson's comment. This is once again much ado about nothing.
