That seems cool, sorta surprised they didn't partner with VBC again

This idea was pitched to the AD five years ago.

Kudos to AD Huge for finally making it happen!

Slightly off-topic, I notice that this is another "Van Wagner Sports & Entertainment" thing, like the Tribe Radio Network (apparently) now is. Amid all the discussion of FloSports (Boo!), I haven't seen any details on what this Van Wagner deal is.

When I first noticed Jay Colley saying "From Van Wagner" at all of the commercial breaks on the radio, I thought ol' Van must be a new member of the broadcast team.

Any facts and/or opinions on Van Wagner, what it is, and how it benefits (or not) the Tribe?

P.S. - the Pavilion seems like a great idea!

IMO a big improvement over Tribe Tavern, as there is no admission fee. No way I'm paying for the privilege of paying for beer. Absolute guarantee that some version of this concept is a permanent part of whatever renovation ends up happening.

Great addition! No mention as to whether you will be allowed to take food and beer back to your seat, as Charleston and others allow. By default, crowd noise will increase, as beer has a tendency to do.

Read Todd's bio. It explains what he does and the partnership with Van Wagner

A terrific addition, long needed. And just great they decided to do it right now.

Good decision and awesome concept, glad they are not charging a cover fee like at football games!

All kinds of positives here. The biggest one, in my opinion, is that the court should feel more closed in now. The next biggest positive is that the long lines at the lone open concession stand that used to completely clog the walkway... hopefully now vanish.

Is it too much to now ask to turn off the arena lights that are not directly above the court? Yeah... probably too much.

So this area previously held the band, Tribe store, the cheerleaders and dance team? If so, is that all relocated?

That tipped the balance, huh? Cheering for your team didn't quite sway you.

Oh, that's a game changer.

As far as the band. Last game I went to before break they had moved the band to the right (from student section perspective) of the students, so they're the midcourt half of the student section seating now (unless they changed that in the last few weeks). They are hard to see through to see the far basket, but it is a nice change of pace.

Okay, showing my age ... in my day, the band was at the far left end of the student section (student view toward court), next to the open area, at the concrete concourse level, just above the portable stands.

No one’s view was blocked. They sounded great. The instruments were facing the entire crowd. They had plenty of room.

Sometimes, the old way things were done was the best way.

RE: The Precarious Pavilion
I posted this in the WMSportsBlog topic, but it probably fits better here...

The Beer Hall looks good, but they definitely need to correct a flaw in the layout.

The rope border separating the pavilion from the playing floor should definitely be set up across the walkway from the court, on the green floor covering. It goes as accepted practice that some player, at least once a game (in every gym in the country), will end up running through the photographers/cheerleaders. To have a metal stanchion and a rope in place just invites serious injury. Where a player could just run/roll through the end of the end zone, now he will have to contend with a physical hazard that he could get wrapped up in, causing greater injury.

While I know that this is just a proposed layout, that is the type correction that should have been caught early, thus preventing any unfortunate accidents that could have been avoided.

(this is visible in the Blog's most recent article.)

04-cheers

RE: The Precarious Pavilion
Seems like it would be a no-brainer move for Precarious to set up a couple of big screens at Henry St. streaming Tribe away games for men's/women's bball, football and baseball. There's a lot of customer synergy to be tapped into, as well as, encouraging the fanbase to collectively come spend money on beer/food, rather than Flo Sports. I imagine that would, also, drive more use of the Pavilion during games.

Not sure that would be better than drinking beer and watching Get Up! and First Take in my family room at 9am...but for lunch? Now you're talking.
