RE: The Precarious Pavilion
Am I wrong, or was that picture from the Sumner/Schneider 2010 season? Could have been against ODU, looks like Sumner and Schneider outside the arc. I might be wrong though.

With regard to the discussion about who's showing up... starting somewhere on page 3 this thread was worthless except for the nice picture of an old game and ad for Tribe Talk.

SF's post a couple up from this one is the end of the discussion. The Pavilion is a hit, nothing more to talk about.

I'm almost positive it is. The athletic department has been dining out on that one for a decade now.

Yes, that looks like the ODU game Schneider senior year. Gold Rush has come close though has never fully packed the Hall.

Attendance for that ODU game was 7216, according to Wikipedia.

That ODU game was not a sellout, and plenty of space around the edges; 7216 sounds about right, and there will be questions as to whether or not that included students. Regardless, with loud Tribe and loud ODU fans and both teams having great years it was an incredible atmosphere.

I remember my wife, daughter, and I battling the normal awful HRBT traffic as we drove from Virginia Beach and then dealing with an accident on 64 that slowed us up to the point that we only got there a few minutes before tip off. As a result, I was not there early enough to watch Kaplan fill up. I just remember walking through the opening as we headed down to our seats and being overwhelmed by the size of the crowd and the energy level. It felt like an ACC environment that night.

Actually checked the box score on the Tribe Athletics website. Attendance was 7,686. According to the box score, it was the largest crowd ever to watch a CAA game at Kaplan and was the largest crowd at Kaplan since 1993.

I remember that 1993 game vs a ranked UVA team. That was a good time.

2009-2010 was the year I fell in love with this program. That was a great tournament-caliber team, limited by one or two games in February they had no business losing.

All I want is to see Kaplan again like it was that night they played ODU. The students were packed in and standing all the way up to the concrete tiers at the top. 7,000 + in that building is LOUD, even with the open end and everything else. If we can keep this program moving in the right direction there will be more nights like that.

Wasn't that the game where we trailed a really good UVA team by about 20 points with around 10 minutes left in the game and came all the way back to take the game to overtime?

That's the one. I know we hit a three towards the end of regulation to complete the comeback. UVA was a top 5 team at the time and the Hall was going bonkers.

I always remind myself that a good portion of the 7,000+ were ODU fans. They traveled really well and we're an easy drive. Factor in we were both really good that year and it was a good reason to drive up from Norfolk. I'd ballpark there were probably 2,500 or so ODU fans there that night.
