cost can be mitigated IMHO. You can make this trip on a reasonable budget - but guess what you have to PLAN ahead - one thing the general population does poorly at

Would love the area, but a half occupied stadium even with the upper deck closed off is not preferable to me. Hate that look on the bowl games. I like the sell out appearance/feel.

Every option from prices, to options would be better in Orlando than Frisco.

Frisco is a 24 hour trip for me this year. If it were in Orlando I would likely get there Wednesday night, and return on Sunday. Why spend the money for an additional night following the game? Why get to Frisco early? What is there to do?

Apples to apples comparison - I'd estimate Orlando would be 25% cheaper than Frisco due to cost of flights, hotels, rental car.

I agree that the trip is quite affordable for an individual.....where if going with some friends you can split lodging, rental car.

I disagree that is very affordable/reasonable for say a family of 4. Sure one can budget it. But at the end of the day, you are talking about $2500 (and likely a bit more) for a family of 4 for a 3 day trip to see a football game. Oh and it is on the heels of Christmas. I think one would have a hard time convincing the wife/family......hey we are not gonna take a nice trip this summer.....instead we are gonna use those funds for a mid-winter trip to frisco texas. Heck I am taking my family of 4 for a 9 day Royal Carib Cruise for @$2500 in June.

I just find it amusing that the same folks that will defend folks to the hilt regarding BFS attendance to include playoffs.......now are all in on it just takes a little planning in advance to trek to Frisco, TX for a few days.

DC or somewhere in Florida would be infinitely better for travel.

RE: Should the FCS Location be switced more often?
orlando and the soccer stadium looks ideal. 25k gives additional capacity, but wont be vacant should teams with smaller fan bases make the game. better weather, more activities.

In addition, home to Disney, Espn. Disney and espn seem to be slowly raising the profile of the FCS championship game. putting it on ABC this year. I have seen increased promotion for the game.

if you are disney / abc, doesnt it make sense to promote the game and drive 25k fans to orlando for 4-5 days rather then frisco? maybe 25k is a blip on the radar for them, but from what I understand, the 2nd week of January is the slowest week of the year for orlando.

why cant espn / disney do for the FCS playoffs and championship, what they have done for LLWS, college softball, and college baseball, raise the profile? Seems like a lot of opportunity.

Yep, I'm in Friday and out Saturday. Would've done a day trip if possible, but too risky with 11AM start.

I’m not so sure on the pricing being cheaper. Orlando area airports don’t handle near the level of volume, and flights can spike in price quite rapidly, particularly when buying on short notice.

If you avoid the Disney trap, hotels could be a wash, but Orlando is not the cheapest city across the board. I travel there semi-frequently for work-related activities and notice this every time.

Is there more to do in Orlando than DFW? Perhaps, particularly if you include Disney. I’d venture Disney could also be the reason many people would want to avoid the area. I groan every time we have a work conference and I must navigate through hoards of mickey-eyed families.

There are also plenty of things to do in DFW. If you think there isn’t anything to do, you just aren’t searching.

The only semi-obvious answer is more consistent weather outlooks, and perhaps Florida being closer for JMU fans than Texas.

I think this speaks for most of us and many of the Bison fans as well. I like Frisco and feel they welcome us but it's in for the game and out when the game is over. It's like a business trip. If it were at a place like Florida, Vegas, New Orleans (Tulane) I would make a weeks vacation out of it. Dallas is a great city if you like to eat and drink but certainly not a tourist destination.

I was there for a few months right after college for work. DFW is a fun area, but is nowhere close to Orlando for family activities. You can catch a rodeo, visit the stockyards, check out some large boot warehouses, have great bars all over and pretty cool downtown for adults.

I only like Florida for the weather potential which definitely is an easier sell to the family and more of a vacation. I'd be fine with Vegas or Phoenix or SoCal for that reason too. If you're from DC, Richmond, Raleigh, Virginia Beach or anywhere else on the Eastern Seaboard from NC to NY like 90% of our fanbase, there ain't crap to do in DFW you can't do at home in the same crummy weather, at least not after the first time.

Agreed, tho I imagine it's a step up from Chatty, assuming you still had to fly. Orlando would seem ideal, but I suspect they moved it to Texas to make it more centrally located. On the other hand, the bulk of FCS teams are east coast, so that point is kind of moot.

For many of us we have a limited entertainment budget. Sorry, no ski trip this year, no dive trip to the Bahamas, We're going to Frisco TX to watch a football game. Now I could sell the "on the way to Key West, we're going to make an overnight stop in Orlando to catch a football game.

What would be great about Orlando is my family will still love it. Richmond to Orlando southwest flights are as cheap as flights get and I could confidently book them the moment those dates go on sale every year.

What if JMU doesn't go? Well, we'll just make it a theme park trip for a quick weekend instead, or cancel and reschedule for a weekend that may not be as crowded with freakin bison everywhere.

That is what it comes down to - if you're going to spend that money to travel, take off work, and take kids out of school - it should be more than a business trip to a game. Not looking forward to Frisco - just the game. It would be nice to spend that money on someplace my family and I would also be excited to go to.

Let's take an annual family trip to FW / Frisco. Yipee! Not......

FAU Stadium in Boca Raton (30,000 capacity). If you have kids or enjoy Disney/Universal, etc fly in to Orlando earlier in the week to enjoy those attractions and then drive down to Boca Raton for the game. Fly in to FT Lauderdale, Miami or West Palm Beach, all within about an hour (or less) from Boca Raton. You can enjoy Miami, go to the beaches, possibly catch a show/gamble at Seminole Hard Rock Casino/concert venue.
