Sorry to break this to you but all bowl games for the G5 are meaningless except for entertainment for their fan bases. Lol...no need to get uppity there sport.

The top G5 teams are playing for rankings, that is not meaningless.

So you are saying when App is not rank or have a chance at being ranked they should not be in a bowl?

I guess it is according to what you mean by "meaningless". If you are talking about meaningless to the National Championship, then all but 3 games are "meaningless". If you mean meaningless in general, that is categorically false. Take one glance at the teams that win, the people that pay thousands of dollars to support their team, or the trophies proudly displayed in cases for these "meaningless" bowls.

I will agree that there are too many bowls. IMO, you should only be rewarded for a winning season. No team should go to a bowl with a 6-6 or worse record.

I like Bowl games, the more the better. It provides a sort of closing to see where conferences may have improved or gotten worse as the season progressed. It also forces schools to play those that they claim to be head and shoulders better than. For instance, Auburn losing to Minnesota was great because the narrative around the SEC. SMU getting smoked by FAU and Temple by UNC was a larger indictment around the AAC.

These conferences that schedule relatively soft out of conference games makes bowl games against common opponents necessary to gauge the true strength of the individual teams and conference as a whole.

Obviously, as App fans, it's usually a hate-hate relationship with UNC (except for the Wal-Mart or Michael Jordan basketball fans) where you hate to see them win and there is no love for any part of that school. However, you hate to love to see them take Temple to the woodshed because of it's validation of App's win this year, in a sense.

The Ticket Scalper Birmingham Bowl is about to start, featuring future Big XII member Cincinnati against who cares about Boston College. The weather in Birmingham has been awful all day, attendance could be in the hundreds.

Go Team!!!!

I live about 20 miles to the northeast, lots of rain here, but I haven’t seen any lightning. If it gets canceled, two years in a row that BC will have their bowl game lost due to weather.

They are living the UCF life.

You would think that App moves up to #18, but serious concern that Cincy jumps us with a dominating win over (albeit a very bad) ACC team. We got no favors playing any CUSA team. Need to make sure new bowl alignments has SB Champ playing something better than CUSA. Even though I enjoy beating CUSA every year, it's getting old.

Cincinnati is 11-3. If they jump App, that would be totally wrong.

Of course, a few teams with worse records were already ahead of App. It's a P5 thing

The Potato Bowl has turned into a game. After Ohio was up 30-9, it’s now 31-21, Nevada is storming back. Little over 8 minutes to go.

Couple things of note for tomorrow’s Armed Forces Bowl, first off, it starts at 10:30 central, that is very early. The second thing is, TCU’s stadium only holds 45k, that was kind of shocking for a P5 school.

P5 stadiums less than 50,000.

Wake Forest - 31,500
Washington State - 32,248
Duke - 40,000
Vanderbilt - 40,350
Boston College - 44,500
TCU - 45,000
Baylor - 45,140
Oregon State - 45,674
Northwestern - 47,130
Utah - 47,825
Syracuse - 49,250

Utah's stadium also hosted the Winter Olympics with temporary seating that made it over 50,000 for the ceremonies.

Just shows some of our facilities aren’t that far behind P5, and add into it that there are a lot of P5 stadiums that are 75 years old. Many of our facilities, even though smaller are much newer and nicer.

Reminder, Armed Forces Bowl started at 10:30 central. Game is currently 6-0 USM, 10:54 and Southern Miss has the ball. These schools are only about 110 miles apart, Dallas isn’t a terrible drive from either school. They used to share a conference in CUSA, should be a well attended game.
