Can't find it at the Roost, but I guess all the important info is in your thread title.

The Roost reported on Twitter that he had left the team. Then, I looked at his Twitter and it says “Kansas State ‘23”

Strange he would leave so early. Wonder if it was for academic reasons.

Yeah. Or maybe the frickin humidity.
Or didn’t like the staff
Or didn’t like being on ESPN bottom 10
Or just wanted to go somewhere different

I know Rice is a tough school but not everybody who leaves is “for academic reasons”.

One look at that gigantic empty stadium on game day is probably enough for any number of our players to have wandering eyes.

These kids want to play big time football, not get a great education.

Lots of reasons to transfer out. Probably should have done it myself 50+ years ago. I don't hold it against anybody who transfers out for any reason. At this age, the only decisions more important than where to go to school are the decisions to marry or join the military. Their life, their decision.

But I will point out that nearly all of our HS recruits have seen the stadium attendance before they signed. It's not as if they signed expecting Ohio State or Michigan levels of fan support.

Every player wants to play on the big stage initially but their main goal is playing time not how many people are watching. Two of the four running backs at A&M are in the transfer portal. There are on the big stage already and still not happy where they are. [/align]

I understand our recruits know they'll be playing in front of no one, but I also believe that it gets real old real fast for them. That, and the general indifference towards athletics at Rice I'm sure has a lot of them second-guessing their decisions pretty quickly. I don't like that they leave, but I understand.

I suspect it was 'no pt and not looking like a lot more' which may or may not have anything to do with his skills. SOmetimes it's numbers, or just a conflict with one coach. Is he on scholarship with KState? THAT would be telling

If he thinks he is going to get more PT at KSU, it sounds like he perceives a bias against him from a coach.

In any case, it's his business, his choice. I wish him the best of luck and hope we face him and his KSU teammates in a bowl someday.

Plus, he will be getting one of those coveted Kansas State degrees.

Many athletes don’t prize that Rice degree as much as many non-athletes do.

Whenever I get a chance to talk to the athletes one on one, I like to remind them that none of the names on those building are from guys who played in any pro leagues after college. They made their money elsewhere with their Rice degree.
