WBB vs Robert Morris 12/29/19 2:00 PM
Greetings All

Hope everyone has had a safe and peaceful Holiday Season so far.

The Lady Dukes take on Robert Morris at the Convo on Sunday December 29 at 2:00 PM in the last OOC game. Hope we can get a nice crowd to cheer the Dukes on to a win. With the students out on vacation and the Holiday Season in full swing might be a tad light on the crowd. Hope those who can make it will be there. Wife and I will be there ROOTIN as usual. Hoping that younger daughter and fiance will also be there.

Go Dukes!!

Brian

Brian, leave your air-tuba home and bring your air-guitar for the guitar Pep Band.

Just got home a while back from the game. This had to be the most putrid example of bad shooting I have ever seen. The score at the end of the first quarter was 9-0. That's a football score. Terrible shots and when good shots were made they just clanged off like the baskets had lids on them. RMU only had 7 points at the half. Things got a tad more lively in the second half. Jackie scored 21 pts and Kayla had 17 boards and 7 blocks. The only really good thing to say if that the Dukes D was tremendous and messed with RMU all game long.

So hopefully the Dukes got the one bad game a season out tonight before they head into conference play. Think the first thing Coach O should do is confiscate and burn the game tape!!

Conference play starts this coming weekend against W&M on Friday and Elon on Sunday. Will be at the Friday game but won't be able to make the Sunday game as we will be in FL celebrating our 35th anniversary.

Go Dukes!!

What a WEIRD game! Especially the first half. Especially the first QUARTER! I haven't seen a team limited to 0 points since I was in high school, and that was a zillion years ago (give or take). Seemed like somebody put a lid on the JMU basket too.....except took it off for Jackie, who was lit up. I guess that was holiday rust. Robert Morris looked simply AWFUL the whole game, and befuddled too. About the only player of theirs I was at all impressed by was the little Japanese PG, who was very quick, a good 3 point shooter, and the only one of the bunch who could guard Maddie. The rest of them.....meh. It was like their coach was shuffling players in and out desperately trying to find something that worked, and Coach O was doing the same thing, well, because he could. And wasn't Kayla a BEAST??!!!

I'm encouraged by the continuing improvement of our freshmen and sophomores. When this bunch of seniors graduates, I don't think we'll be be completely bereft. Kiki looks to be the real deal, and Rayne Tucker shows improvement every time I see her. Love Jaylin Carodine...if you watch her closely, a lot of what she does is stuff that won't show up on the stat sheet, recoveries and passes and stuff like that. I am worried about Eleanore, though. She plays like she has lost confidence in herself. Husband said she seemed unsure of where her feet were.

It definitely was not pretty, but a win is a win is a win. The zero points in the first quarter and seven points for the half were records for the lowest number of points allowed by the Dukes. Hopefully it was a good way to blow off some dust and rust before the serious part of the season begins. I have full confidence Sean and the other coaches will have the team ready for Bill and Mary on Friday.

Kudos to the "Rock Band" - the four Pep Band guys who were pretty lively all day. Several of my friends commented that they sounded better than many of the full pep bands we have seen at other schools.

The crowd was bigger than I had anticipated and they seemed into the game. Sean mentioned at the Crown Club reception that the crowd and the band gave the team a boost of energy. Hope to see lots of folks on Friday and then again on Sunday.

Kayla had a great game, and was 1 point (and 3 blocks) shy of a triple double. In another thread, I mentioned she needed to average 4 blocks a game to break the all time CAA record for career blocks. Well, she got 7 credited to her yesterday so she is well on pace. How great would it be to have her break the record in the final Convo game? What a way to close out a building!
