RE: 2020 FOOTBALL SEASON
I'm thinking maybe LU should drop one of the FCS games to help a FBS team. Present an opportunity to help both LU and a FBS team.

Would playing UMass, UConn, and New Mexico State home and home make sense? I think BYU and Army would be tough to get a game with and Notre Dame would be nearly impossible. What if one of these decided against football? We'd be in a tough spot.

If all of the conferences go this way, we may all have to go this route, which on one hand would be awesome, especially if it led to one game against ND, but it's also sad to see 3 ACC games fly out the window.

The ACC said they will take care of Notre Dame so I don't expect them to be available for us unfortunately. Hopefully our ACC games get rescheduled.

2020 Opponent Preview: Western Carolina.
https://www.aseaofred.com/opponent-previ...-carolina/

ASOR listed this game as a win.
Their season prediction at that point in the season is 7-3.

ASOR: Phil Steele’s Magazine Previews Liberty Football.
https://www.aseaofred.com/phil-steeles-m...-football/

Some thoughts... Having LU 114th out of the 130 FBS teams seems a little low. The SOS is weaker this particular year and it might become weaker if the ACC teams cancel. I am thinking LU will win a fair number games despite the ACC teams situation.

Steele places emphasis on having only 9 returning starters in comparison to last year which had 15 returning starters. I think one factor to consider is that many starters were from the FCS era. This year, the team contains more FBS level players. So likely younger but with more FBS caliber talent.

Steele praises HF for his 8 wins last year. It was not expected. I think the coaching staff will continue to improve the overall team. The system is now in place. No more coaching and system transitioning. The talent is rising and the coaching staff looks closer to a P5 staff on paper. Another 8-ish win season is realistic IMO.

It definitely seems low, but I think the fact that our schedule looks more difficult on paper with 3 ACC teams, plus having only officially been 100% FBS (bowl eligibility included) for one year, & a lower number of starting returners (on paper), I can understand his hesitancy with moving us higher, as it's hard to gauge 100% accurately. Obviously we know much better than him about what those lower starter numbers really reflect in quality, but he does have to review 130 FBS teams, so I won't fault him for missing that key detail this year.

The thing I like about Steele is that he does his best to be fair year-in & year-out. He admits when he's wrong (as you noted), & I think if we have another great year, he'll start moving us up much higher than our current projection.

"Gridiron Expert" predicts 7-5 if the season schedule holds.
Note: the FCS rule for bowl eligibility changed so that is incorrect in this video.

Who is most likely to replace N.C. A&T on the schedule?

Looks like the Va. Tech game is safe.

Syracuse and N.C. State are WAY more doubtful. N.C. State may keep us.

We could keep all of those games since they're away games and the ACC requirement is that home or away, they have to be played in the ACC school's home state. It should also help that both SU and NC State probably view us as wins.

I think VMI might be the team. They are supposed to play at UVA that week. I doubt UVA will drop the UGA, unless the SEC forces UGA to pick between GT and UVA, because of money. It would make a ton of sense to play that game. Easy travel, cheap and a should be win. JMU would be another I’d watch for. They lost their conference for the season but are determined to piece together a schedule.

Well nvm on UVA vs UGA because they would have to move that to VA and I doubt that would happen.

seems that both conferences are attempting to protect crossover in-state rivalries (Clemson-SC, Florida-FSU, Louisville-Kentucky, UGA-GT)

If we can join one of C-USA, Sun Belt, or MAC for 2020 only, do we do that and if so, which one?

I would prefer the Sun Belt, but based on scheduled games, it would be easier to join CUSA.

I'm hearing that UConn cancelled their 2020 football season. LU needs a replacement game.

Can't have a losing season if you don't play any games. Bravo to UConn for finding the easy solution 04-cheers
